I was 'invited' (it is open to anyone) to join a 'club' ride on Saturday in my home town. Being that I commute and ride for fun on my one and only road bike, the Volpe, I am afraid I am going to get dropped like the sins of an angel rising to heaven. Apparently this will be a more casual ride averaging around 18-20 in 25 miles. Who else likes to go out and get spanked on the weekends on their muter? :D

If I were to try to ride with a group of any skill right now I'd just have to tie a rope to the bike ahead of me. Haven't done any serious riding in quite awhile, so I know the feeling.

Just get out there and ride and have fun with it. If you find yourself alone in a big field with the sun on your back, fear not, because you are in Elysium and already dead! No, wait, that was Gladiator. If you find yourself alone on an empty road with no peloton, fear not, because you are now on a solo ride to enjoy at your leisure!

I think I am going to hang off the back and see what shakes out. I know they are going to laugh at the rack and fenders. Hey it's not a beauty contest....wait, well for some it might be! At the very least, I will be putting my normal skewer on the rear wheel, and removing the Burley trailer skewer. :D

When I was in Hawaii and commuting every day I was still doing fast team rides on the weekend. Since I am bigbill, being on my wheel is a good place to be, especially in headwinds. I had to reprogram my brain on the weekends to ride around stuff and call out hazards. During the week riding the cyclocross commuter with 28mm armadillo tires, I didn't really pay attention to the road hazards, I was mostly concerned with cars. It was fun showing up on the fendered commuter every once in a while but it really sucked on the downhills with a 48 bigring. FYI, fenders are a little sketchy in a cross wind while doing 40 mph on a descent.

I hate to bring this thread back from two weeks ago, but that Gladiator comment cracked me up something fierce! :D :D
