View Full Version : Moreau not considred a contender?
Gargamel 07-18-2007, 05:25 PM Every time the VS braodcast shows that graphic listing where the 'contenders' are currently, I'm surprised that Moreau is not listed. This is his year, man.
Any reason he wouldn't be considered a viable threat for it all?
VS is very english speaking oriented. Moreau is still in it with a good chance to podium and an outside chance to win.
Very outside.
Pablo 07-18-2007, 06:23 PM Very, very outside. He's got a long history of being solid, but not a winner. And he's sort of old, 37, to win it (I apoligize to everyone older than me).

Unless you are talking about moreau vs LL. Then Moreau is a mad crazy attack machine, ripping the legs off others and whatnot. Cause LL would just sit on his wheel since he doesn't have the killer instinct.
Like "once they hit the Pyrenes he's a falling rock" chance?:p However, I suppose he's as good a chance as France has had in a while......

atpjunkie 07-18-2007, 07:04 PM unfortunately he's burned a book or 2 of matches and hasn't gained much of anything
good on him for attacking though
not the greatest tactically and I think he'll pay next week

He's 36. Paul Sherwin said he doesn't have the acceleration to follow the younger riders.
Run1stBike2nd 07-18-2007, 07:53 PM What's more ridiculous, the fact that Moreau wasn't on the list, or the fact that Hincapie was on the list during the stage 8 coverage? I know VS caters to the English-speaking world, but listing Hincapie as a contender is a bit much.

I thought Moreau was a Caribbean island where you anchored your boat? I think Moreau can podium if he tries a Floyd or something equally bold- otherwise he and LL will always look back at this with "what if"s
parity 07-18-2007, 10:28 PM You'll be happy to know ITV4 (UK TV Channel) doesn't consider Levi Leipheimer as a contender because they never show him on the standings. So who cares and just watch the racing.

Touche! Hincapie was <u>never</u> a contender in this Tour, and it was ridiculous listing him as one.
Moreau is definitely a contender, and he is having a great year. He can certainly time trial better than a lot of the other contenders.

eurosport is considering him a contender.. they keep saying how he was all caught out today.
Len J 07-19-2007, 06:18 AM Big mistake today...... Moreau got caught out in a crosswind.......currently 2:00 minutes back and losing time.
Brilliant move by Astana.

TyboTy 07-19-2007, 06:47 AM Sounded like poor form to me - wasn't he at the back getting medical attention?

I am unsure. Phil and Paul said he was back there, but they thought the attack came after he had finished treatment and had hung there for a bit. Could be close to poor form, I suppose it depends on just when he finished getting treated and just when the attack came.

Velonews says he was done with his doctor visit, and was just lingering around the back end of the peloton. No foul there.

Um did you happen to watch Dl this year while not the best climber in the world he's hardly a boat anchor.

Posted over in the other thread but since the discussion seems to be here:
Sure it was a foul. he was returning from the Drs car, no one attacked the times Vino dropped back to get treatment in the past week. It was a cheap shot by Astana.
Whenever I think of Moreau, I am transported to a valley with a huge echo.
I stand alone and say, wow, you suck uck uck uck uck uck........Hours of this echo draw me back to the race coverage.......

I hope it was "poor form". That's one of Vino's endearing qualities - he also thinks this Euro 'etiquette' is pure nonsense designed to keep the top dogs on top. It’s supposed to be a race, not some American Idol where we keep all the favorites in contention no matter what. - TF
Gargamel 07-19-2007, 01:33 PM I cursed you. I should have never started this thread.
On a side note, do you supposed the folks at VS read these boards. Seems odd after writing this yesterday, they give Moreau some airtime/consideration.
