My usual crew "no showed" me today so I hooked up with a 6 man group for a trip through Zion National Park.

It was a 57 mile out and back from LaVerkin City to the turn around at the Temple of Sinawava.
I have done this ride three times this month and I just love it.

Looks great, got any more photos? If so we would love to see them.

We camped in Zion a few years ago and really loved it. What really impressed me was the shuttle bus system and ban on traffic (mostly). I wish all national parks would do that. A trip to the Smokies or Yellowstone can be almost ruined by getting stranded in one of their traffic jams.

Zion is so close to Vegas that my brothers and I have talked about getting cheap flights out there, renting a car to drive to the park, and spending a long weekend there hiking. Some time we'll do it. There are some serious trails there, if you're into hiking.

Here are a couple more shots for ya.

On a bike is the best way to see Zion if you are not hiking. The shuttles run pretty much all summer so there is no traffic. The road was repaved in march so it is butter smooth.

There are a lot of great hikes in Zion so if you are coming for a visit you need three days minimum in the park.

A client of mine was hiking Angels Landing about a month ago with his entire extended family and his brother in law stumbled, rolled once and plummeted 1000' to his death. A couple of guys go over the edge on that hike every year. There is a chain installed for you to hold on to but people get careless.
My bride has banned me from that hike forever but you should do it if you come.

That's the trail I was thinking of, Angel's Landing. They had a cool poster of it in the Zion gift shop, and I kicked myself later for not buying it. Really impressive shot showing switchback after switchback with little tiny people hiking on the trail. I have heard the trail is really scary in spots, and I'm not sure if I would have the nerve to hike it to the top.

We took the trail up one of the little narrow canyons, which was really cool. I understand that it can become very dangerous, as well, after heavy rains.

I can see where Zion would be a great place to cycle due to the lack of traffic and the scenery.

I've been there a couple of times. I'm from Nevada originally, but I live on the east coast now. I always tell friends around here who are thinking of visiting the West that if they can only get to one national park, go to Zion. It's as beautiful as any place on earth.

I get hot just remebering my hikes in Utah.

We took a 10-day car camping tour of the 4 corners area a few years ago. Camped at Arches, Mesa Verde, North Rim of Grand Canyon and Zion. Also drove through Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef. It's hard picking a favorite, but Arches was really the most impressive followed closely by Zion. But Zion would probably be the best of the bunch to cycle in, although Capital Reef might be better for mountain biking.

Capital Reef was a pleasant surprise and I wished we had time to camp there. The campground is in the of an old apricot grove -- the park is like an oasis in the middle of the desert -- and we pick a huge bag of ripe apricots. They even had picking tools in the orchard for campers to use.

A college buddy’s brother was a ranger in Zion. He was leading a hike, turned around to talk to his group, and stepped backwards over the edge.
