I took my son out for a nice ride yesterday.
We got him a nice 24" Orbea from ebay last year (from a fellow RBR dude). We've had it out several times since, and he always has a blast.
We went for 20 miles on Sunday. There were several highlights:
- a toilet paper spill on the road (complete with poachers looking for free TP)
- a blue ICEE at the turnaround
- throwing rocks into the river
- some racing with dad
- a good revoery drink at the end
As you can imagine, the non-sycling stuff was just as fun for us as the riding. It may have been a little slower and shorter than my normal weekend ride, but it was definitely more fun!

You met up with Iban Mayo on your ride?!?
Oh, wait, that's your son. Same build, hence the confusion. Ha-ha!

A Eukastel fan! Maybe he'll win on Alp D'Huez in 10 or 15 years. Looks a good time. Nice bike for your son!

damn, your kid has more team kit than I do! Awesome bike. Nice color coordination as well.
Riding buddy, Yoohoo, throwing rocks... what more could you want?! Looks like a great ride.

Thanks for all the kind words.
It is a really cool little bike. It came with all the team gear, and he really likes putting it all on. He was facinated to learn how to pee while wearing bibs.......He was asking about clipless pedals too, so I'll have to keep my eye out for a small pair of shoes.
I have the next bike all lined up for him... a 43cm Trek 420 frame and fork that I'm going to outfit with all Campy stuff. I'm slowing filling up the parts bin for it (under the wife's radar if I can).
It's fun to take a ride with a different approach. You definitely have to be willing to stop and smell the roses (or watch the horses, or throw rocks, or play on a playground).....
