They kind of have to if they want to stay on top as one of the best bike makers out there. They just don't have a choice.

If they have a great marketing department they could use it to their benifit:

"The top dopers choose BMC, not only do they choose the best drugs, but the best bikes to get the win." Or something like that.

Basically, make light of the situation while also showing their bikes are the best.

I doubt they care much, the bikes didn't test + for anything. what was festina riding? specialized I think? didn't seem to destroy the big red S.

I think BMC will be fine. They make sweet bikes.

They still sponsor a domestic team that has as one of its leaders the winningest active US racer, Scott Moninger who has only been suspended once for doping in his career and his suspension was cut in half. So they got that going for them, which is nice.

There's a BMC team van, truck and car about 10 minutes drive from here,
it's been parked in the QBP parking lot for a couple of weeks.

Says "pro cycling team" so they're doing it.

What else are they gonna do? They make bikes and that's it, they can't quit the game.

Swiss bicycle manufacturers BMC has terminated its sponsorship agreement with the Astana pro cycling team as a direct result of the team’s drugging scandal.

“The reason for this is the latest case of doping that occurred in the Astana team during the Tour de France that has just ended,” said Markus Zehnder, head of marketing and communication for BMC. Astana team leader and pre-race favorite Alexandre Vinokourov tested positive for homologous blood doping during the Tour and has since been fired by the Astana team.

“Whether BMC will engage again in the future as a sponsor of a professional cycling team is still an open question. The other current BMC sponsoring activities in professional cycling, mountain biking and triathlon are not concerned by the present decision,” Zehnder said in a press statement.

This makes me wonder what they will do with all the Astana painted frames. Sell them at a quarter of the price? Sign me up!

Don't they kinda have to continue sponsoring some pro team?

I, for one, had never heard of a BMC until Phonak started using them. I think their presence on the pro scene is the reason they are where they are.

Unlike some other bikes with a long history (say Bianchi), I'm not sure BMC is established enough to not be seen racing at the UCI level. Especially since the only thing they make is "race" bikes.

P.S. If they do start selling those Astana bikes at a significant discount, I'll be flying the colors of Kaz...the Pro Machine is hawt!!

I am sure they will rebound...if their next sponsorship deal/team get busted again... that would really suck... but it would be really funny... kinda like a horrrrrrible cycling jinx.

Considering the bikes come with a big bag of drugs, their marketing stance is clearly defined...
