or "How I discovered a new found appreciation of my Stepmother".

I just recieved this OLMO as a gift from my Stepmother. She was a competitive triathlete back in the mid 80's but hasn't ridden the bike in about 10 years and with a double knee replacement last year (running sucks, eh?) doesn't have any plans to ride it again. She knew I had gotten back into building bikes and wanted it to go to a good home. I offered to bring it all up to snuff again and return it to her to help with her rehab, but she told me to keep it, enjoy it, and give it some good exercise once in a while.

Here's my questions for you folks...I've never had a bike with Campy before so any help with parts/gruppo ID is appreciated. Sachs Huret rear derailleur? Should I look to replace this with a Campy unit, and which one if so. I'm keeping the downtube shifters and the bike as period correct as possible, but not at a fanatical level. Also the second set of wheels are tubulars "Saavedra, made in Argentina/ turbo aerodinamica/ one point one" front is radially laced and both have some slick little skewers on them. Any info on these wheels?

I'll post another pic and ride report when she's all cleaned up in a couple weeks. Thanks for any help/info while bringing this old girl back.

Nice bike. The front skewer is an American Classic. I can't see the rear well enough.

The rear derailleur is a Huret Jubilee, one of the lightest rear derailleurs ever made. I'm not exactly sure what the remaining components are.

If I were you I would just clean it up, replace the brake pads, saddle, chain, and pedals then enjoy it the way it is.

This looks very similar to the bicycle I posted pictures of recently, only yours is white. The bike seemed to be a very nice ride for it's age. I was there a model name for your bike?

I am assuming it is an OLMO Competition. The bike was repainted at some point in its lifetime but has always been white. I was hoping whomever painted it didn't paint over the chrome fork and stays but alas, I think they did. Bummer.

Thanks for the rear derailleur info. Sounds like a keeper. The rest of the components seem to be Campagnolo Victory based on my seach last night. I think a wash/wax/lube and replacement of the comsumables (cables, housing, chain, brake pads, bar tape, seat...) and I'll give her a go. I'll probably replace the bars and stem with correct sized Cinelli bits for fit. Thanks again.

The jubilee derailleur is definitely a keeper. I consider a significant upgrade to the campy victory derailleur! nice gift.

25 miler... just got back from a 25 miler after seeing if the tires would hold air over night. Changed out the saddle and the pedals and thats all. Much thanks to the retentive stepmom for as she said "always washing and keeping the bike ready to go" after EVERY ride.
Sweet riding bike. Just need to add a longer stem and wider bars to fit me, and a good cleaning...sweeeeet.

Here she is all cleaned up and fit to me with bars and stem from one of my other bikes. New tires, tubes, cables, housing, seat, bar tape, and brake levers. Rode 45 miles on her yesterday and it was sweet. I found myself riding the last 25 miles not even shifting as the 42/15 (73.5 gear inches) seemed to be the magic gear for the rollers on the backroads I was on. Must be the singlespeeder in me. I thought that the front rings were 52/39 until I got home and took a closer look to check what gear I had been riding and saw the 52/42 front rings. Stepmom must have been in shape back in the day, or Tri couses are quite flat. This is a nice riding bike!

That is a really gorgeous bike and I'll also have to say that you can't do much better on the rear mech.

all you need is a nice white Regal to top it off!
