I am planning to convert my Colnago Super fixed gear (I think mid eighties frame) and put downtube shifters and derailleurs, etc...

I have a few basic questions:

- What cassette do I need ? 7 or 8 speeds? Which one should I buy? What is the widest gear ratio I can get?
- The bike is equipped with Super record now but I need to buy derailleurs and shifters
- Can I convert my existing fixed gear rear wheel or do I need a new one?

Funny I'm busy doing the same thing with the same frame and parts. Just did not get around to using the fixed very much. If it's a fixed you probably have a screw on so you need to get a 5-7 speed freewheel (not cassette). An 8 speed freewheel would need respacing of the frame and hub.Ebay or a swap meet is you best bet for the deraileurs.
