I've been riding a trek 2300 for about 6 years. selling it to my neighbor so want to upgrade and looking at trek again. I'm determined to stay open minded but have enjoyed the trek. Has anyone ridden a Madone 5.9? any opinions or suggestions appreciated.

Call Indy Fab, or Seven, or Land Shark, or whomever and get a rig made especially for you. We only live once.
I bought a full-custom rig in 1985, good old Reynolds 531. It's still quite a machine (more so than its owner for sure), and I've not had one regret ever. Guys riding past on titanium Serottas, etc. will occasionally remark "Now that's a good looking bike!"
Regardless, your budget allows you a whole lot of neat choices. Enjoy whatever you pick.

I would suggest that you go to the bike shop, tell them your budget and have them pull bikes in your size. Don't look at the pricetags or the names 'cause you'll be biased. Just ride and buy the one that feels the best. Who cares what it costs, as long as it rides nice. You may end up on a $1000 dollar Fuji or a sexy $4000 custom who knows.
Good luck and let us know what you get.

I was fitted and made the deposit today. Now all I have to worry about is how long it takes to get it. Hopefully the horror stories won't apply to me, but it should be a beautiful bike when it gets here.
