I would like to get a subscription to a cycling magazine, but I dont know which magazine would work. I have seen bicycle magazine and Velonews, but I am not sure how many others are out there. Does anyone have any recommendations or which magazine is preferred the most? Thank you.

What are your interests?

There is Procycling, Cyclesport USA, Cycling Plus, Road, Road Bike action, Bicycling, and Velo News...

Each caters to a slightly different audience

I like Velonews because it is comprehensive, timely, not too expensive, and has a North-American focus. For some reason it takes British mags two months to get to the west coast of Canada, and they cost $10-12 by the time they get here, neither of which I can understand.

Velonews.....Bicycling Magazine is too much fluff.

Procycling and Cyclesport are the best magazines about Euro pro cycling. The also have some good wit, especially ProCycling.

VeloNews and Road have good coverage of domestic racing and training tips. Velonews is bi-monthly, I think, and all the others are monthly.

Bicycling is a lot of fluff, but I still scan it at the newsstand.

Dirt Rag is a good non-mainstream mountain bike magazine that eads like a 'zine.

Bike is also a good mountain bike magazine, but more polished.

Just about anything aside from Bicycling. No offense to anyone who might read it here, or maybe even write for it, but that magazine stinks. It's basically the same re-hash of the same articles they've been writing for years on end. Such as (Titles made up by me):

Climb Like Lance!

Drop 20 pounds FAST!

Learn to sprint like Boonen!

Train for a double century in 20 minutes a day!

You know, articles like that that never really help anyone.

I have some friends who get me a subscription for it every year for Christmas. But I am not complaining. It only takes about 5 minutes to read but it has pictures of bikes in it which saves it from autotrash.

sometimes I wonder who they are trying to appeal to when Bicycling has the beefcake stuff on the cover.

I generally agree but Bicycling occasionally will come up with a good article. The Africa Biketown article or article about immigrants that use bikes as their only means of transportation were both a pretty good read..

I get tired of reading about the Euro racing scene in Pro Cycling and Cyclesport. Those magazines have very little variety.... I'd like to see a US based magazine like Cycling Plus..

Road is a good combination of race coverage, product review, and general cycling lifestyle, with a good article on power-based training. Road Bike Actionis a good product-review mag

CycleSport...mostly covers Euro racing scene. Small articles on new equipment/bikes. Problem is once you get the current issue, it's about a month behind.

A good place for news, tech, is http://www.cyclingnews.com/ And it's free..

I bought a year subscription to Bicycling when a neighborhood kis was selling stuff for a fundraiser. It's ok I guess, but I find VeloNews to have much more meat to it. A coworker gives me his copies when he is done with them. I find VeloNews to be a well written magazine and it has big pages and good pictures too.

If you can get your hands on a copy, check out Ride. It's a quarterly magazine out of Australia that doesn't focus on results like some magazines are still hung up on doing despite the Internet having a huge edge in this area.

Ride does fantastic pictorials of the major road races and features on teams and riders as well as extensive gear reviews.

I really like Procycling and I believe that they are embracing the internet revolution and the change. In the last year, the articles have become more in depth about riders, prospectives on the doping scandals, development of future stars, histories of great battles of the past with character development.

If you are into euro racing, Procycling is great but they have moved away from being a real news source. With the internet, news is just reported too fast. Plus, in the last year, they've had a number of uh-ohs with the cover. They had Landis after the tour before he was busted, a review of the upcoming Giro with Basso on the cover before he was busted, etc.

Rivendell Reader (www.rivbike.com (http://www.rivbike.com)) and Adventure Cycling (http://www.adv-cycling.org/)are the only two I get now.

I am thinking of getting Bicycle Quarterly (http://www.vintagebicyclepress.com/vbqindex.html)
