View Full Version : Trautwigism of yesterday
Flip Flash 07-16-2004, 07:31 AM I'm sure we could find an ALism of every day, but yesterdays was sad.
The word for the day was Lead Out and Phil L. said it right, as it's pronounced.
During AL's later commentary he say lead like a pencil lead. Lead out. Like get the lead out. It was sad. Ugg.
Any other ones out there.

The really bad one yesterday was when OLN kept hyping the mountain stages:
"Who will lead in the mountains? Armstrong, Mayo or VIRENKAY:"

The one I remember was Trout Wig calling Bob Roll "Bob Kee" instead of "Boob ka" as it is actually pronounced.
Go Kart Motzart 07-16-2004, 07:45 AM There was a segment with Chris C. last night during primetime and Chris was talking about how many bottles the riders would consume on a long stage. Later Al mentioned the riders stay liquidated (as opposed to hydrated). He really is an idiot.
EclipseRider 07-16-2004, 08:04 AM My favorite was his category 5 climbs
How about a couple of stages ago when Al said the "riders put cream in their jersey to prevent saddle sores."

Fogdweller 07-16-2004, 09:54 AM Keep posting them. They bring a good laugh to the day. I can't even watch the evening coverage because the guy bugs me so much.
gregski 07-16-2004, 09:17 PM I haven't been recording any of the replays, but in watching yesterday's, I could have sworn as they were near the end of their segment (Al, P & P), Al called Paul Sherwen....Paul Irwin. I wish I would have recorded it so I could be sure, but I just sat there not believing what I just heard. Well, considering the source, I guess I can.

But it was an Al attempt at humor in reference to Roll pronouncing Heras' name properly (silent H) and Phil and Paul not. So Al made a funny by calling them Phil igget and Paul irwin. get it? funny huh. Yea, I record the morning broadcast and watch it.
HouseMoney 07-17-2004, 08:22 AM Yeah, I remember that "liquidated" line from a few stages back. Good thing I wasn't in the process of liquidating myself at the time or I may have spit it out in laughter.
I like yesterday's stage when the rain began. Trautwig commented that some of the riders were putting their sleevelets on. Perhaps not entirely incorrect, but I think arm warmers is the more common term.
All in all, though, I've come to ignore his commentary and just enjoy the extensive tour coverage on OLN. Beats a little blurb in the daily paper, or a 30-second mention on the nightly sports report.
Where else could you see a herd of cattle crossing the road and getting in the way of the peloton? Or a close-up shot of Botero hanging on his team car while his big toe gets rebandaged?
terence 07-17-2004, 09:42 PM My favorite was during a discussion on drafting in the peloton. AT wanted to show off his knowledge on the subject by interjecting how a rider in the peloton would actually get a push forward in the same fashion as a sailboat does from the sail. Both Bob and his guest (Chris?) looked at each other with silence. AT said something like, I guess I don't know Physics like I had thought.

Hey Al - D'YA THINK?? What a maroon! :D
This guy needs to seriously consider "abandoning his Tour" and "live to fight another day"!
