I am 6' 3" and currently have a 56cm. I feel it's a bit small for me.

Is there a chart somewhere where it correlates height and frame size?

Thanks
Stu

I'm 6'3", pretty normally proportioned I think...I look for a 58.5-59cm top tube. I don't mind a lot of drop from seat to bars. I think somewhere in there would be good for you depending on your reach and flexibility.

There are all sorts of varying advice on frame size/fit. Do a search on Lemond and bike fit and you'll get something worth reading about.

As for your current stead, though I dont know all your various body proportions, pretty safe to say that frame is way too small for you. I'm 6'2" and ride a 60cm steel DeRosa oor an XL Look 595, both of which are far larger than what you have today.

I too am 6'3". Currently I'm on a 58cm Felt. It seems to work pretty well for me, but I can't imagine being on anything smaller. I have the seatpost all the way out with a pretty good drop to the bars, but the fit works for me. It all depends on your personal proportions though: leg/torso length etc.

Hmm...thanks for the advice guys. It seems my bike shop didn't advise me too well!

I am shopping again! (a good excuse to treat myself to something fancier!!)

Yeah steer clear of that place. I'm 6'3" with a relatively short inseam for my height and ride a 58cm bike with a longer than average top tube, and a decent length headtube.

As a rule of thumb, if you're pushing the limits of your seatpost extension or if you're adding tons of spacers under your stem, you might want to try the next size up.

I am 6ft 2.75 and have 58 Specialized Roubaix Comp and a 60 Orbea Orca. The 58 is a little on the small side and the 60 is a little large. In my case 59 would be about perfect if the top tube length fell in between the two bikes I have now.

This chart is a good starting point, although it's only accurate for traditional frames with horizontal top tubes and seat tube to top tube lengths based roughly on the CONI chart.

I am 6'3" and I ride a 62cm and a 63cm. My inseam is 93cm (around 36.5"). The top tube for the 63 is 59.5 with 73 STA and the top tube for the 62 is 60.8 with a 72 STA. The top tube measurements and seat tube angles really matter.

one other place to look, and I'll mention it because no one else has...

disclamers being: Rivendell is extemely opinionated, and a little cultish. But, he's got some decent points, especially if you don't actually race.

What he said! I also have Local Bike Shop-itis ( was put on a frame a bit too small). Seems to be universal. Bought a Riv, didn't work out for me, but not because framing size was wrong. In that regard, it was way more comfortable. Next bike I get, I'm using their method to put it in the ballpark, frame wise.
