I am looking to purchase a new road bike. I have been riding a Hybrid for the last few years and want to move to something more road worthy. My joints are too old for running and I want to ride for fun and excercise.

I just finished riding RAGBRAI in Iowa. It is a five hundred mile ride across the state for seven straight days. The average ride is around seventy miles per day and my buddies with road bikes were leaving me in their dust.

I am looking to spend less than $1000 for something that will hold up to my 6'3", 210 pound frame. I am searching my LBS for good deals and also have been checking online. The Motobecane Vent Noir looks like a good possibility, although I know some people are not fond of BD. I am not a racer, I just want a good quality setup that I can ride some 70-100 mile rides and keep up with the pack.

Thanks for your help!

My opinion is for somebody of your weight to ride a nice and sturdy steel bike. If you don't mind building up your own bike, there are plenty of large used steel frames on Ebay that you can build up for $1000.

I must admit that BD bikes are great deals and worth considering if value is of great importance.
