If so, it's hard to beat the Performance sale prices on Dura Ace and Ultegra hubs with Open Pro rims and butted spokes. Bianco 08-03-2007, 11:46 PM $300-$500 http://www.williamscycling.com/ http://www.rolwheels.com/ http://www.neuvationcycling.com/ I am 195 pounds (was 220), I had a pair of black Mavic Kysrium SSC that lasted 5 years before rear hub broke. These seem to run around $400 used on ebay Bianco 08-04-2007, 09:34 AM $140 for this set from PRO-LITE http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/shop/product.php?productid=16228 Do it. I emailed pro-lite last week about weight limits for their wheels (none are posted www.pro-lite.net ), because I'm keen on getting the triple threat lite http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/shop/product.php?productid=16171&cat=257&page=1 They responded that "When you make wheels as well as we do you don't need to worry about weight limits." ru1-2cycle 08-04-2007, 10:13 AM How much do they charge for shipping? Spoken like a true marketeer... If you make wheels that are designed to take the loads that your avg 300lb rider can deliver then they will be heavy... which is why there are lighter wheels with weight limits. Weight is certainly not the only factor, but it's an easy one to measure. I'd guess that Pro-Lite simply hasn't worried about this issue... yet. ThaFurnace 08-05-2007, 12:00 PM hey has anyone boughtor used FSA wheels ? Am I the only person that thinks FSA products, pretty much all of them, are crap? You obviously know my take on your question. I don't know what caused my FSA apathy - but I simply don't buy into their marketing or their products. I don't know what caused my FSA apathy - but I simply don't buy into their marketing or their products. Nope, I've had horrible experience with FSA products. I had an outboard BB have a bearing that was not securely installed and one of their carbon cranks that made awful creaking noises as you pedaled. Their wheels are filled with problems, just read the reviews on this site. mbcracken 08-09-2007, 11:39 AM Are you mostly looking for something that is good quality, durable, and low cost? How do those Shimy/Open Pro wheels compare to Mavic Cosmos that are about 2000 miles old? Cheers, Mike rruff 08-09-2007, 12:04 PM How do those Shimy/Open Pro wheels compare to Mavic Cosmos that are about 2000 miles old? For one thing they are new:D Same rims I think. The Open Pro wheels have standard spokes and hubs which is a bonus if you need service. Otherwise they are pretty similar. jbkalla 08-12-2007, 05:55 AM Like one of Biancho's recommendations, I really like the Neuvation M28 Aero (http://www.neuvationcycling.com/wheel/m28aero2/m28aero2.html) wheels. I'm 260lbs and have commuted over 150mi (so far!) on these wheels (with the optional ceramic bearings). And a bonus: They're on sale now for like $270 + $100 for the bearings. I still have my second set (unused) of 34 spoke Mavic Open Pros (with Ultegra 10sp hubs). I used a set of Open Pros years ago, when I was around 220lbs, and they worked fine, but since I had the new set built, I found the Neuvation wheelset and haven't put the Open Pros on my bike. The Neuvation set was around the same price (after building) and is much stiffer, IMHO. |
