View Full Version : Transporting bike, stress to the wheels?

I can't really figure where this one goes, but it's a sanity check for me. I am new into cycling, riding a Felt Z-80 (go Felt!). In my area, it is somewhat dangerous to cycle around IMO, especially as I'm not comfortable with clipless pedals yet (started with them). So I have to get my bike into the back of my Chevy S-10 (won't fit in the cab), so I wrap a clean towel around the frame where it leans against the side of the truck, and secure everything down with a bungee cord spider.

Is this a problem for the wheels of the bike? They are having force applied to them from the side (from leaning over like that - the handlebars are placed just over the side of the truck), but can't move around.

Alternatives to transporting the way that I am are of course appreciated.

It does not do any damage to the wheels but it could scratch up tour frame or handle bars. Get a Yakima bedhead they are cheap and easy to install and then you won't have to worry about damaging anything on the bike. http://www.yakima.com/Product.aspx?id=109

That makes sense. I use the towel around the frame to cushion it and prevent any scratching from the metal contacting metal. Maybe some issue to the handlebars though. I will look into getting one of these when I get paid! Thank you.
