View Full Version : Kasheschkin Positive Too
Dwayne Barry 08-08-2007, 08:51 AM Apparently positive for homologous blood doping in an OOC test taken in Turkey on August 1st. I've got to say this one really makes little sense. It must take some time for the foreign blood to wash out, why would he risk this?
I could see homologous blood doping to replace an extraction for future autologous blood doping or even just to gear up for training IF it wasn't detectable for what I believe is a relatively long period of time.
GueroAz 08-08-2007, 09:05 AM He and Vino probably got their bags of blood mixed up. Didn't this happen to Tyler and Santi Perez in the Vuelta?

I'm pretty sure I've read that Perez and Hamilton were not of the same blood type and therefore mixing up the bags would have had serious health consequences.

fishtaco 08-08-2007, 09:22 AM When Hamilton tested positive for homologous blood doping he was positive before the olympics, but not busted for it. During the Olympics (a few months later) he got tested again with the relatively new test and was, surprise, positive again. It seems that homologous doping can result in positive test results for a long time after getting the blood.
As for Vino, he may have thought that he could get away with it because after stage wins, he would get his urine tested and not his blood.

Astana's Andriy Kashechkin has tested positive for a homologous blood transfusion at an out of competition control in Turkey on August 1.

The 27-year-old Kazakh is the third member of his team to fail a dope test this season, after Matthias Kessler (http://eurosport.yahoo.com/cy/profiles/4144.html) was found to have an abnormally high level of testosterone a day before the Fleche Wallonne, and Alexandre Vinokourov (http://eurosport.yahoo.com/cy/profiles/245.html) tested positive for a transfusion after the first time-trial of the Tour de France.
He has been suspended by the team following the result of the 'B' test.
Astana last week announced their decision to pull out of all racing while they redevelop their code of ethics and put in place "new draconian measures" to help prevent a repeat of the scandals that have blighted their name.
"While Astana is doing everything to take a fresh start on new foundations, Kashechkin's positive test once again questions the credibility of the team," Astana said.
"This new blow just reinforces the will of Astana Cycling Team to set up drastic measures for clean cycling."
They were not invited to the Deutschland Tour, though are expected to be in Vigo for the start of the Vuelta a Espana in September.
atpjunkie 08-08-2007, 01:13 PM what you didn't think there would be suprise visits from the vampires after your leaders bust?
"we Kazahks stong, eh, but eh not so bright."
won't help Vino's defense
terzo rene 08-08-2007, 02:23 PM I'm wondering who would be left on the team if draconian measures were taken, since it was a pure doper team from the start.
fornaca68 08-08-2007, 03:17 PM Kessler; Mazzoleni; Vino; now Kash. Four busts in 3 months on the same team. Team Phonak redux. When will Kloden get caught?

I love it!
To pull a Razzie: v, disappear, mainly to avoid doping controls. usage: training plan pre-tour - Eindhoven TT, Dauphine' Libere', then I'm pullin' a Razzie until July 1.
Men in Black: v, looking for a Razzie, mainly to catch dopers. usage: He was Razzied in Teneriffe, but the UCI MenInBlack'd him.
Others? discuss.

It's like an unorganized version of Festina. Downgrade!

Are they a ProTour team? I thought they were just getting wildcard invites to everything?

They inherited Liberty Seguros' license.
