So, it's time for my to start drooling at wheelsets. Here's what I'm looking for. I want a UBER stiff wheelset, and cheap. Weight doesnt matter to me as I'm going to be sprinting these on the track. They need to be tubies. Then I'd really like the lace them to some Phil Wood hubs.

What would you suggest?

It sounds like you have your mind made up as is.

32 spoke Velocity deep v sew-up rims with Sapim or DT oval spokes

Can't get much better than that for a track wheel with phil hubs unless you want a fancy pants carbon rim

Agreed with the above post for a rim. Velocity deep-V's are super strong. For track I use Mavic GL330 32h 3x with 14g spokes (eventually I'm gonna tie and solder them just because they look retro). They are freakishly light and sturdy.

I'm not a fan of Sapim spokes but I only built up one wheelset with the spokes. They have the name "Sapim" stamped near the J bend and that's where the spoke broke only after 200 miles. I'll stick with DT or Wheelsmith spokes.

i'd go with 28 spoke sapim cx-rays, but that's just me, deep v's are kick ass, i'm having a set built up right now.

Everyone is reading my mind. I just relaced my Suzue Promax hubs to some Velocity Pro Elite tubs (the tub version of the Deep V) and I swear I can tell a difference in the way they roll. Very smooth and strong on the track. Much better than the Ambrosio Crono's they replaced.

www.everybicycletire.com has good prices on Velocity rims. Good service too.

Ok, so this is what I think I'm gonna go with. The 32 spoke Deep-V Elites with CX-rays, laced to the high flange Phil Wood track hubs with some Tufo Elite <110g tubies.

So, with that out of the way, wheel builder time?
