OK, I know even asking this makes me a total feeb, but it's either ask or sell the bike.

Does anyone know of an adapter to add a deraileur to track dropouts? I swear On-One used to sell something like that but I can't find it anywhere.

I've got a surly 1x1. It's pink. I love it. But... I'm hardly riding it anymore. I love riding fixed on the road, singlespeeds are a blast when it's paved, but off-road, I just don't feel the love as much. When my gears are low enough that I don't have to walk the steap sandy parts, I feel like I've got no speed on the flats. When I've got speed on the flats, I've gotta walk the technical sections of the hills.

So, any suggestions that don't involve me buying a rohloff hub?

Thanks!

You can buy a Shimano Saint or Hone series rear hub and rear der. The rear der. bolts to the hub axle, so no hanger required.

I wuz kinda hoping for something that wouldn't require buying a new rear wheel...

Probably not on a track style end. Maybe if you mount it backwards?

Got another option to ponder. My co-worker is in the shop working on his Santa Cruz Chameleon. That bike has 7mm thick, 10mm slotted quasi track ends and a bolt in kit with a der hanger. It might work with the surly drops, perhaps with a little modification. The downside (other than the possibilty that it won't work) is that the kit costs $50. Since I have access to the bike, I can take some more detailed measurements to compare with your Surly's and make a more educated guess about compatibility.
