I'm in the process of singlespeeding my old lugged steel Fuji Ace. I'm thinking either Mungos or bullhorns. Could you all post pics of your brake lever setups?

Cheers.

Here is the same bike. One is a cyclocross lever and the other is a time trial lever. I prefer the cyclocross lever

Why do you prefer the cyclocross lever over the TT lever? I would think it's more convenient to have the TT lever at your fingertips when you're hands are in the forward position.

It all depends on your riding style. I rode with both setups for a while and decided to stay with the CX lever setup.

Bingo. It's all about riding style...I've found that when I need braking, I'm usually riding on the bar tops. The only time I use the horns is when I'm climbing or sprinting

Exactly...I'm pretty much the same way on the fixed gear. When I'm ready to brake, I'm usually in a more upright, and hands on bar-top position.

But since the OP mentioned singlespeed (as opposed to fixed), both front and rear brake levers on horn ends might be more practical, especially during high speed descents, for example.

Here is my Mungo with stem and brake lever attached. I switched to a riser bar and will probably sell the Mungo at some point. Comfortable bar, but my neck needed more rise.

When I'm on the tops I'm usually going slowly enough to stop with my feet, not the brake. I want my brake lever out at the end of the bar for emergencies.

Most stops are due to traffic in my case and when I want to see or be seen I'm on the tops so CX or regular MTB levers are my anchors of choice. Personally I find bullhorns a pain in the butt (no neck) for longer rides. Good for corner shop runs but not much else.

Is there any particular reason for using standard brake levers instead of TT levers on bullhorn bars, or is it just a matter of using what you've got already?

It's what most people have and don't want to spend the money on TT...I've always had a hard time routing the cable with standard levers on bullhorns..The only way I could get them to work as drill a hole in the bar and run the cable inside

Not to mention half the cable/housing and a clean tight look.
I agree about the functionality of the lever placement, too.
