The only bike shop around me only carries shimano. I am considering building up a second bike and was curious what hoods are better for biggish/bigger hands? My hands are L/XL. I currently ride DA-9. The hoods are pretty comfortable, I am just curious if people with big hands have better luck with campy or SRAM. Thanks.

I have palm-a-basketball sized hands. Dura Ace 10 speed was too uncomfortable. Campy and SRAM were about equal with a slight edge to SRAM.

Interesting....
I have small hands and find that Campy Ergo gives me a much more comfortable grip, with less reach and easier lever control than Dura Ace. Not had any road experience with SRAM.

is it easy for you to shift with your thumb while sprinting in the drops?

I have "size large" hands and have no problem whatsoever shifting with the thumb lever from the drops. Whether this works as well for people with shorter thumbs, I cannot say.

...I am 6'4" & I have XL hands...Shimano hoods are bulkier...as in they fill up my grip...but I like the ergonomics of the Campy better, like reaching down w/ a pinky and feathering the brakes...no experience w/ new SRAM stuff...
...keep in mind that Campy brifters means Campy DRs & drivetrain [mostly]...
...ask Len J...he has both...he'll give you an objective opinion...

I have super super super XXXL hands. Well... maybe not that big, but pretty huge. I have a hard time finding gloves that fit comfortably.
DA9 was the pits as far as hand comfort went for me anyway. Ergopower (cross bike) and STI 10spd (road bike) levers both feel pretty good. They both work pretty well for me. I don't really have a preference.
Don't own SRAM, haven't spent more then a test ride around a parking lot on a SRAM bike.
I don't have really big hands but I've been using Shimano my whole cycling "career". I didn't know any better until I was building up a vintage Colnago with Campy C-Record components. I bought some Tektro Campy Ergo knockoffs and they are terriffic. They don't feel like I'm grabbing a ruler like the Shimano's. They are a little bit fatter. I like it. I converted most of my steel rides to the Tektro levers.

I like Campy over Shimano for brifter fit. No problem shifting with my thumb from the drop for me. No time on SRAM for me. I am running two bikes with Cane Creek/Tektro levers and like them better than any brifter. One is 9s barend the other is SS. They are the fattest and most supportive hoods.
