Fan boi's don't want to hear it.
karategirl 08-28-2007, 10:15 AM My goodness, I didn't know that was going to be so long when I clicked on the link! (It's probably 40 minutes or so). Anyway, I read Walsh's book, so most of it I had heard before. I admire her for not being intimidated by LA and co.
Regarding fan boys, I have a friend who is of at least reasonable intelligence, and I was trying to tell him about the Walsh book and stuff about LA and whatnot, and he just didn't want to hear it. Like, he would NOT hear it, it does not exist, you are not talking. Even if Lance was found with a needle sticking out of his arm, people like that are just going to say Lance was treating a sudden flare up of diabetes, or something.

People have a lot of emotional capital invested in Lance's 7 victories. Sometimes reality causes cognitive dissonance that people would rather not suffer.

yeah...fox. that would be why I missed it then, I don't usually go there looking for news. or anything except the simpsons. the interviews not that old though, she refers to vino's + as happening "today" so it's late july.
Len J 08-28-2007, 01:01 PM Hey...if I had Cancer, and one of my sources of hope was Lance, It would be hard to see him as a flawed human.
& that wasn't a ctiticism..........it was a reality.
I respect it.

Is there any human being who isn't flawed? IMHO I think the sport is being way too tough on young athletes and no where near tough enough on Doctors, Team Directors and support staff.
Bocephus Jones II 08-28-2007, 03:40 PM Anyone who thinks Lance never took anything is naive and it is suspicious how he dominated the field for so long--some of whom were proven to be doping at the time or later. Just sayin. I still think he was a great cyclist even though he is likely a flawed human being--like most of us from time to time.
RickyRitalin 09-05-2007, 06:59 AM I agree with your perspective completely. The only way to clean up the sport is to remove the impetus to dope (or cheat) or the mechanism to allow it to occur. Penalize those that prey upon the cyclists in the first place. Ban Feuntes and Ferrari, the T-mobile doctors and anyone else who would soil this sacred sport.

I believe this is the correct answer - if a director got banned along with his rider(s) who tested positive, I think things would change. But it would have to be a proper ban, not some loophole that would allow Saiz or his ilk anywhere near cycling.

Ah yes, draconian measures are the answer! I can't imagine that you'll find a lot of people willing to be team directors if that were the case. Why stop with the DS? Ban everyone associated with the entire team--riders, support staff, sponsors, etc.

Hell, why stop there - ban the FANS, we are the real problem
Chompers 09-10-2007, 12:43 PM Sounds pretty convincing to me.
coinstar2k 09-10-2007, 01:30 PM I agree with MB1...after reading Walsh's book, I think that the teams and coaches should have a heavy blame in the doping problems. Doping was pushed on these riders from the time they were juniors with no explanation of what they were being given.
