Has anybody every used these for cross? I use them on the road here in New England and they are pretty bombproof.

BTW, I know, I know...why use such a set of expensive, fancy wheels for cross? Answer is...I have an extra set.

Thanks folks.

Are these the all carbon version? If not, I know the less expensive version with the metal rim is rather heavy. I'd call it overkill, but then again, I wouldn't race them for cross even if I had them.

It would depend a bit on the race. For a deep mud or sand race, go for it. For a dry race, you would loose the benifit of the deep section and sacrifice weight wise like one_speed said. They would still make a great pit set on those days if you can run two sets of race wheels for the season. As far as durability, I think they are tested enough to feel safe on any cross course.

Hell if ya got em use em!

Pretty sure I saw pics of J Page and a few other pros used them last season, so why not.

There was a huge debate on here a few years ago when Ksyriums were new.
It really is simply a cost issue, if you can afford to wreck them (and you will eventually, just like most other parts in CX) then go right ahead.

Oh yeah, if they are no lighter than your regular hoops then don't bother unless its DEEP sand or mud. Or you just love the bling factor :-)

If you're talking about the ones with the aluminum rim and the carbon faring, they will be more than strong enough for cross. They're incredible crit wheels, but they are too heavy for cross where you want a wheel that will spin up easily from a near standstill (out of tight corners). And of course they will make your bike heavy as you have to lift it for barriers, etc.

I have a pair of these that I love for all but the hilliest road races and crits. I've never been able to convince myself to glue cross tires on them, they're just too heavy.

If you have the lightweight, full carbon ones: these would be sick for cross. Carbon rims break easily when you're ripping around with 25 psi in the tires though. Do a search, this has been discussed.

If you have the clincher ones... forget it. There would be no reason to ride such an expensive and heavy wheel in a cross race. Cheap tubulars would be far faster.

The full carbons would be great if you also had the protection plan; in that event it wouldn't be a big deal when you kill one (though you would be without a wheel for a while).

I was just out in the garage working on my two cross wheelsets that sat around all this year, and boy were they beat up, all smacked out of true, one of the spokes snapped off in my hand, the freehub is all sluggish and sticky. I forgot how much stress cross puts on wheels.

Personally, I think those are awfully nice wheels to use for cross, especially since they wouldn't really be the best choice for most days.

If the carbons are clinchers then I wouldn't run them. Reason being that the carbon top fairing has fairly large holes where the spokes go in and in mud or sand a lot of debris would enter the fairing area creating more weight, etc.

If tubular then go for it.
