View Full Version : Ebay, was this wrong
bikefreax 07-21-2004, 04:08 AM I was scouting around on ebay for a hear rate monitor. I was looking at the Timex because I do not want to spend a lot of money for I don't know how much I will use it. I am just curious as to how it could help with training, anyway I find one I like and it is strictly a buy it now auction. Monday I broke down and submitted. Then 5 minutes later I sent payment through paypal. On Tuesday I get a message from the guy that he does not have that one in stock. I am a real impatiant person and I assumed I could get it by the weekend and now it may not be in until Thursday. I know it is Ebay policy that you have 7 days to ship the product but isn't it morally wrong for someone to have an auction, especially a buy it now, and not have the product? This guy can not understand why I am upset. What do you think? He has refunded my money through Paypal and now I have to wait the 3 to 4 days for it to clear. This is really bumming me out.

Get a Polar. Here are two for under $100.

If you ever go to a gym to do a treadmill, most of them are Polar compatible. I have owned my Polar Target for many years and never had a problem with it. I'm on the original chest strap. The battery can't be replaced in the chest strap, you have to mail it back to Polar and get another for about $50. I have 6 to 8 years on mine.

Just curious, but how much cheaper was it on ebay then it was locally?

Locally it is $70.00 and it was buy it now for $42.99. With shipping it was just under $50.00
97 Teran 07-21-2004, 07:49 AM in my 150-odd transactions, but I have heard of it happening many times. Morally, and in a business sense, I'd agree with you- pretty ridiculous. But someone who ha$ an eye for ca$h may tell us that there'$ no problem with it... amazing what people can justify in the name of business.

Not sure about Timex, but Polar has posted stuff on their site that the warranty is void if purchsed off Ebay. I still bought off Ebay because they were so much cheaper on my Polat S720i. The vendor who sold it is actually a Polar authorized dealer. I might be able to argue that point if I ever need warranty service, but be aware that you may give up certain stuff in the quest to save bucks.
Make sure to leave the guy negative feedback then, it's dumb to auction off something you don't own. In addition he had to pay auction fees for an item he didn't sell. I'm sure EBay has a policy saying you have to have what you're auctioning, but I'm too lazy to look.

I refuse to stoop that low. Besides I have perfect rating and he will probably do the same to me. I would rather just drop it.

How would that be stooping low? - he deserves it. If a previous customer of his had left a neg. fb stating that seller does not keep goods in stock then you may not have bid. Why not help out the next guy and weed out the crappy sellers? This is what FB is all about!
IMHO there's no difference between not having the product and not having the money: and you can bet a buyer that doesn't pay will get negative feedback AND a non paying bidder complaint filed. Sellers are not going to be nice about incompetance, so no reason why buyers should be.
Yes, you would probably get negative feedback in return though. That sucks, I really wish EBay would require that the seller fill out feedback first, so the bidder doesn't have to worry about retaliation.
