Those Basso frames on performance seem pretty tempting. Are any of these lower-priced ones made in Taiwan? Are they all Italian? Has anybody ridden one?

Yes they are all hand-made in Italy. The ride is great! Stiff in the BB, but the somewhat slack "Classic Italian" geometry makes for a smooth ride. It is even more comfortable to ride than my hardtail, Though I think that's largely a saddle issue :) . They are a steal at the price Performance is clearing them out for. 6was9 07-24-2004, 07:12 PM Those Basso frames on performance seem pretty tempting. Are any of these lower-priced ones made in Taiwan? Are they all Italian? Has anybody ridden one? A red Coral, though I haven't built it up yet... I bought it on sale with 20% coupon code plus I get 10% member points back so it's a pretty cheap Italian? frame that I'll be putting my leftover Chorus components for the kinds of ride where I'd rather not take my good bikes... Don't expect "Italian" paint job or such... the paint job is matte and there are some half-tone tranfers for some grey/silver gradation which doesn't line up quite right and looks cheap... my trainer bike frame bought from Chuck's bike's for $80 have better looking powder coat paint job...Invisible(?) welds aren't bad.... The fork that came with is a carbon with cromo steerer (weighs a ton) and it pretty cheap looking deal ( I don't think it's made in Italy.) I'll be putting my Reynolds Ouzo fork off my trainer bike (although fully functional and ridden sometimes it's mostly mounted on my Computrainer.) I thought of Supergo's $200 Scattente frame but the sizes are limited(only 4 sizes); didn't have my size frame. I would think the fork would be better than the one that comes with Coral.... Although Coral costs(about $240ish) a bit more even with all that discount it comes with "BASSO" instead of "Scat" and made in Italy(?)... :D One thing is though...I've done some goodle search and there is almost zero review/feedback regarding Coral or most of Basso frames (except for some old lugged frames and some recent more expensive carbon frames here in RBR)... at least in English...neither good or bad...although they are being sold in US and Europe... thought it odd.... |
