Hey all,

Has anyone out there tried reaming out a head tube on a lugged steel frame to accept cups for a 1-1/8" headset and fork? I was a mechanic back in the 80's and I was told it had been done by other shops but I've been suspicious.

I want to put a carbon fork on a Columbus SLX frame, but there aren't very many 1" steer tube options out there. I can get a good used Reynolds Ouzo Pro for about $250 but its 1-1/8".

There are tons of good 1" fork options out there. Look harder.

The required ID of 34mm is about as large, perhaps larger than the OD of your steering tube. Unless the cup can be press fit into thin air, it won't work.

Yep. I put the 1" EC90 on an old Litespeed about a year ago. It works great.

Try Excel Sports for the Ouzo Pro 1" 43 deg on clearance for $238

So much better than bodging a good frame and creating a potential source of failure!
