Some interesting points:

NYC commissioner for the Department of Transportation is a bicycle commuter. She became commissioner this past spring.

Bloomberg wants to add 200 miles of bike lanes by 2010. Same number as added last 20 years.

City is pursuing legislation for large commercial buildings to provide indoor bicycle parking. Recent zoning changes in "Long Island City, Downtown Brooklyn and the West Side of Manhattan have incorporated that requirement."

Goal of 1,200 new bike racks installed (out of 4,000 existing) by 2009.

NYC plans to make 9th Avenue more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. A bike lane will be routed next to the sidewalk with a lane of parked cars as a buffer between the bike lane and traffic.
