friend will be picking up a new bike soon to add to her training. she's hoping to pick up carbon for sub $1500. i know they exist but don't have the time to research all of it right now, so i'm hoping some of you have already done the homework for me.
best bang for the buck? only spec is that she must be able to see and test ride the bike locally (san jose, ca), so this leaves out BD.
thx.
Here, Motobecane Immortal Pro $1300.00 shipped and tax free. I just got an Immortal Force, it's really nice. But you said no BD, too bad.

oh wait, she can get a Scattante from Performance Bike, there's not one in San Jose but in neighboring cities.
CFR Comp - compact double for $1200.00

CFR Elite - triple for $1360.00

reason for no BD is because she's never been fitted on a road bike so i'd rather have her see and touch something tangible before making that big step of ownership.
thx for the suggestions, i'm thinking aluminum with carbon rear stays is a more practical expectation at that price point.
those scattantes are not that bad, i would suggest the CFR Elite for her

hah...i think they're fine bikes, but she may prefer something more mainstream if not boutique. she has no problem spending $1500 on a purse but when it comes to bikes...=)
we'll hit the lbs (which is a trek dealer) and see what happens, i'm thinking the giant ocr comp would suit her better.

Paula just bought a '07 Specialized Ruby Comp for $1750.00...so, you can get a carbon for close to the $1500.00 mark. You have to work a bit for it, however.

See if you can find a Scott Contessa CR1 Team on closeout. I've seen them before for just a little over $1500. Nice bike.

- Check out the Elite's & Comps.
Tip : Look for an S-Works Dealer to btw, they should have better pricing than run-of-the-mill Specialized dealers.
