Just purchased a 2005 closeout from SierraTP but noticed on each side where the rocloc straps attach to the side of the helmet, just above that point, there is a small puncture in the styrofoam - same thing on both right and left sides. The hole is maybe about twice the size of a ballpoint pen tip, not big but you definitely notice it. I sent the helmet back to STP and they sent replacement...same exact deal, two small punctures in the same spots. Do you think there is any concern using the helmet or any kind of defect? Since it is on both sides and now am getting it on a second helmet i'm thinking it is some kind of a manufacturing thing that holds the helmet in place while they mount the straps to the side which has left these puncture marks...

I've ridden that model for several years (I'm on my second one, an '04 closeout, I think). Mine has the same thing. I think it's where they make a slight slice in the foam to install the anchor for the rocloc. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

And thanks for the tip on the STP closeout. That's a pretty good price. I may pick one up for a spare; commuting daily, I seem to beat up helmets awful quick. Too much dropping and kicking, I guess.

I think they are for mounting a visor. There should be no safety issues with a hole that small.

That model has never had a visor, and the holes are in the wrong place and too small.

But you're right that they are not an issue.
