I've placed my order for an Axiom, tho the design process hasn't begun yet. The bike will have Record on it, an SRM, Chris King headset, and a variety of wheels (usually Record w/ Open Pros). I will be using the bike for training and roadracing, nothing recreational.

I'd like advice on a bar, stem, and seatpost for this bike. I've tentatively chosen Easton EC90 bar and stem, and Record seatpost.

I'm a tad confused about setback wrt seatposts. What is the benefit?

I understand that 2 bolt stems offer much finer adjustments (thanks C-40!), so there may be better options out there like Thomson, ITM, etc... Does anyone have any recommendations?

Are Easton carbon stems and bars bombproof?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Hi Tim, Congrats on choosing such a wonderful frame.

On my Seven's (Elium Race road & IMX mtn) I used WCS Carbon post, WCS Carbon 4Axis stem and EC90 bars, all chosen for durability and good designs while attempting to minimze weight. The none carbon 4Axis is plenty good too. I haven't checked the length of more recent Record posts, but you may want to ask Seven how far they intend the post to extend and then verify if the Campy post is long enough.

I gave my Easton EC90 mtn bike straight bar a little bombproof test a week ago, when I got car doored (by a passsenger side door of all things). I hit the edge of the door with the bar, before being launched over the bike and door. Other than scraping the Easton decals a bit and dinging up a bar end, the bar (and bike) came out unscathed. It maybe an ultra light bar, but I think it faied better than an Al or steel bar would have in a similar car door encounter.

I think C-40 sufficiently answered your question about wrt setback.

You're ordering a custom ti frame and don't understand seatpost setback? Oh well, most seatposts offer setback; the object being to allow you to get your knee roughly over the pedal spindle. Zero setback posts are a bandaid for incorrect bike setup IMO. There are lots of opinions as to the value of KOPS but it's a good starting point. Just pick a post you like and let Seven know which one you choose and they will adjust the frame geometry accordingly.

Thanks R
It's going to be a 2-bolt setback carbon post, i'll let you know what i decide.
Best regards,
Tim

Yes, something to certainly consider. The Record posts are available in 27.2 x 250mm, 31.6/32.4mmmm x 350mm. So, depending on your required seatpost diameter (if I recall, my older Ti Axiom was 27.2mm) and whether the frame is compact (mine was traditional), might limit your Record selection. The minium length on the Record post is 60mm. The 27.2mm x 250mm will fit in my upcoming Moots Compact SL, with a few mms to spare.

Seven will need to know whether you are going with a setback or straight post, as the frame will be designed accordingly to give proper KOPS. I went with a Seven carbon post with my Ti Axiom, which, had ~20-25mm set-back. My current ride, a carbon roadie, has a post with 25mm set-back, as well.

Seven requires a 27.2mm post.
