Probably just taking a break from all the Lounge madness. It's good for the soul.

Hey spirito,
Glad you haven't abandoned us...btw, what type of longboard are you riding? I'm still in the process phase of all the brands out there and got a nice suggestion on a Sector 9 from Joe.

Hey spirito,
Glad you haven't abandoned us...btw, what type of longboard are you riding? I'm still in the process phase of all the brands out there and got a nice suggestion on a Sector 9 from Joe.

Sector 9 make cool stuff & even i would like one. Mine is a gift from my mates when I lived in NYC so I could "surf the avenues" so it has much sentimental value. it's made by Shermans Shrimp & Skate Company in San Diego and is stiffer than I'd like meaning all the turns are much more drawn out and almost like a Malibu in style. it needs a fair bit of speed and really leaning into turns and using your weight. i took to it easy but many coming from a short style board find it taking some adjusting to. it does have a very long wheelbase and eats cracks and road irregularities with ease which made it ideal for bad streets in NYC.

i still take it every so often but nothing beats the memory of hanging onto a bus going up 8th avenue in peak hour with ease. or even skating along the bike lanes down the hudson and feeling of simplicity and ease. skating a longboard is like surfing which is like jazz. fluid and improvised.

there's this one hill close to me that i think about riding down like I used to when i was in my mid teens and crazy fearless. now i look at it and think how insane I musta been riding along the double lane divider between traffic going in both directions. nobody understands the risks i took for thrills ... not even me now that i'm older and kinda more aware of the dangers. I still ride some hills for kicks but not with a deathwish

I don't think there is such thing as bad skateboards anymore. they are pretty simple really. I wouldn't buy the cheapest or the most expensive. as long as the wheels and bearings are good quality, the trucks sturdy and a deck that has the right amount of flex, it's good to go.
