It wouldn't hurt to keep a shirt or two in the office either. opdeuce 09-20-2007, 07:06 PM but ride in all of the time! i have never regretted riding in, rain, snow, tired, etc. and i always enjoy riding home too! (well, it works for me!)...oh, and a nice cotton hand towel and and some cold water in the sink at work is effective tarwheel2 09-21-2007, 04:07 AM That's a tough one. My commute is about 20 miles round trip, but we have showers in my office. I keep spare clothes, towel, soap, etc. in my office and shower when I get to work. If I were you, I would try taking a shower before heading to work, and then dry off the sweat when you get to work with babywipes, towels, etc. Not sure if that would work for me, but others do it. Also, what Henry said about not over-dressing is good advice, particularly in cooler weather. In the summer, you'll sweat a lot no matter what you wear, but in cooler seasons you can limit sweating by wearing less. You might even find that you are warmer (after the first few minutes) because over-dressing makes you sweat and get even colder. Becky 09-21-2007, 04:27 AM Leave as much stuff as possible at the office. I have a basket in my desk drawer with deodorant, make up, hair stuff, etc. I leave a pair of shoes here. It's a lot less stuff to remember and carry. Less stuff = less sweat. My commute is about 10 miles each way, but I generally don't shower when I get here. I dress lightly and use deodorant and baby wipes upon arrival as others have suggested. M.J. 09-21-2007, 05:17 AM is there a gym nearby you could join? Sledgehammer03 09-21-2007, 05:48 AM Shower before you leave in the morning. Take a few minutes to cool off. Take a bird bath in the washroom sink. Towel off and apply fresh deoderant. Dress with fresh clean clothes.Hang your bike clothes out to dry. You should be OK. I ride hard all the way, and it is OK, not stinky. buck-50 09-21-2007, 06:07 AM wear a wool jersey- you can wear wool for a week or two before it starts to smell, and my experience is that if your jersey stinks, yer gonna stink. I used to have a long commute with no showers. My strategy was to shower in the morning, put on extra deodorant before I got dressed in my cycling clothes and then ride to work at less than 100%- take an extra 10-15 minutes on the way i so I'm not pushing myself. My bike had panniers so i could bring a towel to pat myself dry in the bathroom. pippin 09-21-2007, 10:17 AM I shower before my ride in and then use Comfort Bath wipes to clean up if need be. I like these wipes because they are thicker than most and have no oder. http://www.comfortbath.com/ xcr 4000 09-21-2007, 01:14 PM thanks for all the help..... Then, use a wash cloth and sink in the handicap stall to wash up. Now I put deodorant on and I'm good to go. CNY rider 09-22-2007, 04:15 PM Do you have your own office? If you can, strip down completely ASAP when you get to work. I find that I get really warm just when I get off the bike, so I strip down in my office to avoid really starting to sweat. Definitely agree about the wool too. No stink! |
