If I can find a saddle that doesn't kill my behind I think I'm going to do it. Anyone else done it before? How's the route?

How's the route? route was OK..not the best and I'm sure I could find more bike friendly routes around PDX. starts in Champoeg park...out towards the city limits of Canby (first rest stop)..crosses the Willamette on the Canby ferry...then into Wilsonville where you cross I-5 and start moving north through E. Tualatin (second rest stop). Route takes you e. of tigard out towards Newberg and you eventually end up in E. Hillsboro and right outside Forest Grove before turning south out by Fernhill. The route splits...100 mile continues on through rural roads (50-55mph speed limits..sketchy!) into McMinnville whereas plenty of red necks yell at your out their truck windows. Route gets on 99 for awhile then turns off at Lafayette..back into rural roads (still 45-50mph limit) and winds eventually down back to Champoeg park. I had great weather....but I don't think I'd do it again. Its organized well enough...open starting time...plenty of food/water...well marked with good maps....but I just didnt' like the route too much. actually ended up being 112 miles when all was said and done. a teammate did the 80 (?) mile route and said he liked it much better (stays out of McMinnville). |
