I've been doing some gravel-road riding on a pair of Specialized All Condition 28c tyres, and really like them. They roll well on pavement at 90psi, but hookup on gravel remarkably well.

Is there a lighter, more supple, higher thread-count / Kevlar-bead tyre in a similar width?

They are readily available in 28C, have very durable casing, tough rubber, low rolling resistance. They are supple because they don't have kevlar laminated into the casing.

Also there's no reason to require kevlar beads. The wire bead version of this tire is very light, easy to mount, and will never blow off a rim. I air mine up to 110 for commuting with no problems.

Panaracer Pasela TG kevlar version. Only cost $20-30, depending on the source. Advertised weight is 280 grams for 700x28.

Thank you

I've tried the 23c Gatorskins and wasn't very impressed so I'll skip the 28's.

I'll keep an eye-out for the Panaracers. Here in NZ there isn't a importer for these.

There is quite a good selection of 27/28c tubulars for Paris-Roubaix type events, but surprisingly few clincher choices.

I should add that I'm very impressed with the ride quality of the 28c Specialized All Conditions Sports which are currently on a pair of wheels, a 127tpi & kevlar version of these would be very nice.
