How the heck did he get in that position. Almost think its a photoshop. Where is the back of the bike and the angle looks wrong.

It is NOT photoshop. I saw the coverage of that race on VS and it was indeed very real. He was forced to the left and hit the barrier causing him to do a complete front flip. He sat there for a minute, found his bike and finished the stage.

Yeah I saw coverage of that race as well on VS, what a pile up that was!

They never showed a still picture of it, thanks for sharing it ~ ouch!

Tour of Missouri; sprint for the finish of stage 6, wasn't it? Brad Huff was the guy. The bike immediately went end-over, and Huff did a pile-driver into the pavement. The riderless bike went bouncing wildly through the pack, but incredibly it didn't take out any riders that I saw. And Huff got back up; back on the bike, and rode through the finish to the applause of the crowd.

It's not a photoshop. I saw it in person and I know the rider, Brad Huff. It was ugly to say the least.

Well, he was on his back and pretty much out of it for a few minutes while the med guys looked him over. A very scary thing to watch, really. The speed with which it happened was incredible. Do a search on the web and I think you'll find some video of it. The really scary thing is that, given the power these pro's have in their legs; the gearing that they run, and the fact that it was a downhill sprint to the finish, he must have been doing somewhere around 50 mph - very easily a lethal impact.

Although I'm suprised how he got back on, and how much that mustve hurt. Can you imagine how sore he was the next day.

That is one of the most amazing crash videos I have ever seen. I saw the versus coverage and the bike just flies in the air. From this video you can "kinda" see why he wasn't really injured. He was low enough in the drops that when he flipped he cleared his face and landed on the back of his head/shoulders/back but luckily it appears he didn't hit the barrier and nobody seemed to hit him.

In general, you don't normally get injured (that badly) from high speed crashes where you just hit the ground... you really get hurt when you crash at 35+ and then you hit something else to come to an immediate stop... the body does not like that.

nonetheless... very lucky and good video.

It looks like somebody bumped him. I can guarantee you that I would be leaning on that somebody instead of shooting off into the barrier like that. Riders are moveable, barriers not so much. Sometimes though, stuff happens.

I took a similar tumble at the end of a crit when I ran over the rear wheel of the downed bike in front of me. Of course I was going about 10 mph slower. I ended up in pretty good shape, less a cracked helmet. Can't say the same for my bike which was pretty much totaled.
