REDWOOD ACRES HALLOWEEN CYCLOCROSS BICYCLE RACE
Team Bigfoot’s Halloween Cyclocross is on Sunday, October 28 at Redwood Acres in Eureka. There’s $100 on the line for the winner of the expert race and there’s also a pair of tires ($80 value) for the rider who races in the best costume.
The Course
The .75 mile Redwood Acres course will be set up on the area adjacent to the BMX track. It’s a fun mix that starts with hard-pack gravel high-speed straight before barreling into an off-camber grass downhill turn. In its meander around the grassy slope next to the BMX track the course includes a dismount and climb up a sand slope, a tight drop between a pair of redwoods, another fast section of hard-pack gravel and a few tight switch-backs on grass. It then enters the BMX area with another dismount and run-up next to the BMX start hill. It drops off the start hill and circles around the grassy field behind the BMX track before climbing onto the last straight of the BMX track itself—the sight of cyclocross bikes going over BMX jumps is always a crowd favorite. After exiting the BMX track the course doubles to the back of the BMX track for a tight U-turn that brings the racers back to the start/finish line. A fast rider does all this in just under 3 minutes. Whew!
Redwood Acres is at 3750 Harris Ave., Eureka. The 30-minute race for beginner riders is at 9:30am. The 45-minute race for intermediate riders is at 10:30am, and the 60-minute main event for experts is at 11:45am.
PRIZE LIST: $100 CASH to the winner of
The 60-Minute Mens Race all other category winners get a pair of cyclocross or mountain bike tires from Kenda.
Registration: Sign-up race day at the track. Arrive at least 45-minutes early. No NORBA or USCF license needed, (but be sure to bring your death-certificate)
