ok so i guess i have a great chance at a BMC slt-01 in phonak colors.

the main triangle is alumnium and the rear is carbon to my understanding.. i guess in the new SLTs they went with a full carbon tubing with alumnium lugs?

can anyone comment on how the older bikes ride and what should be a fair price for them? im not sure in what the retail was a few years ago, trying to figure out a fair price for a bike of such age...

thanks again

I purchased a used 2005 BMC SL01 (swiss colors) with about 60 miles on it. Full Dura Ace 10 speed, Mavic Ksyrium SSC SL wheels, Vredestein Fortezza Comp tires, Easton EC90 SLX fork, Magic stem, Easton EC70 carbon seat post, Sella Italia Gel saddle for $1800 in March 2007, the guy I bought it from said he put $3,500 into it. The 2005 has aluminum front triangle with carbon stays in the rear triangle. I am not a racer but the ride is very smooth on rough roads and to me the bike is stiff enough for my 185# frame. I love the bike. When I get a chance I will post a pic of it.

It should be the one with the carbon tubes with aluminum lugs. I bought one of these on closeout from Competitive Cyclist in 2005. Which would be exactly the same frame that they are still selling as far as I know.

The 2004 model was no different construction wise than the 2005 (different paint), and I haven't seen any changes to the frame since then, since their focus has been more on the SLC 01.

If you can get a picture of it, it should be pretty easy to tell if it's the carbon one, or an earlier aluminum model.

BTW, if you do a search on BMC pics in this forum, you should be able to find the picture of my bike to compare. It's a great frame, I can't say enough about it.

exactllyyy... jesss.. 606s even better! love that saddle as well.. what is it?

PS.. the wooden dining set and centerpice accentuate the carbon very nicely on the bmc...

what are your opinions about the tioga spyder... from what i read you ahve to replace that saddle quite often if you ride alot.. seems like the saddle breaks down after many miles in the saddle? im sure its somewhat comfortable and cooling as well?

definetly looks interesting to ride on..

I have had it for about 1 year now and it still feels and looks brand new. I did have a Selle SMP Strike and I actually get a more comfortable fit with the Tioga, I found that I have to tilt the nose down cause of the flex in the middle of the saddle to get a proper fit. Also it is a very narrow saddle. I have too heard that it needs to be replaced every so often, but I have not seen any problems with my yet.
