That is true. But it is good to remember they were human beings. That is the lesson, that human beings can do horrible things. I like this, I don't like grooving hitler at all. Totally different subtexts working for me in each. the_rydster 10-28-2007, 08:53 AM Fastest Godwin in the history of teh interweb. GirchyGirchy 10-28-2007, 08:59 AM Is that picture any different than the 238907532 ones of Hitler that teh moreon has poasted? I don't think I've seen one word written about those. DrRoebuck 10-28-2007, 09:09 AM You know, there never was anything funny about what the Germans did to Europe in WWll. You got that right. I just started watching World at War, the 26-part British documentary from the '70s. Whew. undies 10-28-2007, 09:45 AM You know, there never was anything funny about what the Germans did to Europe in WWll.Tell that to Mel Brooks. bikeboy389 10-28-2007, 10:35 AM Fastest Godwin in the history of teh interweb. Technically, a Godwin is comparing someone to Hitler or the Nazis, usually inappropriately. I don't think we're there yet. Sure took the wind out of funny pixxor Sunday, tho. dr hoo 10-28-2007, 10:40 AM Sure took the wind out of funny pixxor Sunday, tho. Yeah, not ha ha. Interesting historical photo though, and I note the OP has another old one as an avatar. MB1 10-28-2007, 11:17 AM Tell that to Mel Brooks... There is a big difference between a parody and holding a storm trooper up as an example of sweet humor. Cyclo-phile 10-28-2007, 12:07 PM Ugh. Either my sense of humor is broken today or I have a different perspective on life than most people. Maybe it's because I spent many years as a reenactor of first the US civil war and then WWII (federal and US, respectively). Doing the research to portray those men as accurately as possible helps you to realize that there are good human beings on both sides of any large war. I felt that this picture embodied that spirit and also had a touch of irony added in. And while the picture is too grainy to really tell, it's more likely that this guy was a typical infantry soldier than a "storm trooper" as MB1 suggests. the_rydster 10-28-2007, 12:42 PM And while the picture is too grainy to really tell, it's more likely that this guy was a typical infantry soldier than a "storm trooper" as MB1 suggests. Wehrmacht I think. Not that they did not commit war crimes though. Cyclo-phile 10-28-2007, 01:08 PM Comparing all Wehrmacht to Hitler is liking saying all current US troops are like Bush. Can we just chuckle at the irony before this moves to PO? the_rydster 10-28-2007, 01:17 PM Comparing all Wehrmacht to Hitler is liking saying all current US troops are like Bush. Can we just chuckle at the irony before this moves to PO? I would suggest that if one does not want a thread to move to PO, then a picture of a Wehrmacht soldier should not be posted in the OP. SilasCL 10-28-2007, 01:21 PM Comparing all Wehrmacht to Hitler is liking saying all current US troops are like Bush. Can we just chuckle at the irony before this moves to PO? Godwinned. Good effort for a bit, but the Hitler-Bush comparison has ultimately doomed this thread. I didn't find the original picture offensive, but I didn't really find it funny either. Jim Nazium 10-28-2007, 01:43 PM Uzzie's picture offends me. There is nothing funny about being eaten by a lion. dr hoo 10-28-2007, 04:49 PM Ugh. Either my sense of humor is broken today or I have a different perspective on life than most people. Hey, I liked it! I just did not think it was funny. Henry Porter 10-28-2007, 04:51 PM Anybody have a link to the original pic? Elfstone 10-28-2007, 08:07 PM I feel like most, I do like the picture, but I also didn’t feel it was funny. The feeling I get is that down deep inside we’re all the alike… Peace  atpjunkie 10-29-2007, 07:32 AM Comparing all Wehrmacht to Hitler is liking saying all current US troops are like Bush. Can we just chuckle at the irony before this moves to PO? lacks the collar emblems (Deaths Head or Lightning Bolts) standard issue Wehrmacht. I'm with Hoo, shows that we're all humans. sad that a bunch of BS is used to get us to forget that and start killing each other. as for War Crimes: well everybody has a few MB1 10-29-2007, 09:37 AM .....as for War Crimes: well everybody has a few That is hardly an excuse. That would be like someone before the Civil War/War of Northern Agression saying, "Slaves: well everybody has a few." |
