View Full Version : Are these part available anywhere?
krisdrum 10-28-2007, 07:25 PM Hi,
New to the sport and the forum.
I am in the midst of building up a CX bike from parts off E-bay. I received a nice Al frameset with a carbon fiber fork. The fork has brake stud holes, but no studs or the standard 3 hole canti spring retention (usually part of the fork, or on a separate "spring plate"). I was able to get the brake studs without much issue. However, the plates to mount the spring of my canti brakes to the fork are causing a huge issue. Does anyone know where I can find these tiny, but critical parts? The fork is VERY similar to the Ritchey WCS (brand name is Zero). I've also seen such plates on the Alpha Q fork. Oh and the Ebay seller is no help. Suggestions? I want to get this bike up and running for at least part of this season. Thanks.
PeanutButterBreath 10-28-2007, 08:02 PM I looked around and could not find any for sale. In your position, I would call Vicious Cycles. They use them on their steel forks and, since they are manufactured in the US, may be able to send you a set.

The not really cheap solution would be to run paul brakes since they don't use the 3 hole sprint plate thing, but probably cheaper to find the little part, if it's availible, since one paul brake is $80-$100
Sadlebred 10-29-2007, 02:24 AM Have you tried calling your LBS? They can usually get small parts, and it shouldn't be more than a few dollars.
HarrieH 10-29-2007, 03:37 AM Careful!
The thread size is not always the same!!!
Measure of try before you buy.
Perhaps an old MTB suspension fork or alu MTB frame. Most of the time the studs are screwed in instead of welded.
krisdrum 10-29-2007, 07:03 AM Good suggestions so far, thanks. Keep them coming. I have tried one LBS, and they were clueless as to where to get such a thing. There are a few others I can try that may deal with Cross bikes more regularly. I'm gonna call Vicious today and see what they might have. Thanks all.
OutOfBreath 10-29-2007, 07:07 AM Paragon Machine Works sells them. Check it out.

synnevs 10-30-2007, 05:23 PM The Zero fork came on Javelins...why not call them and see if they have any parts

My pair's in Phx, so I can't go look for you.
I'm not sure about the OnZa HOs, but IIRC they don't either. See above about em being in Phx.

Looks like Jav is going to come through for me. I contacted them originally about the brake studs, so I just assumed I should go elsewhere for the "spring plates", but I emailed them again, and it looks like they have what I need. Paragon is also sending me a pair, so either way I should be set to go.
