This past weekend we rode areas along the coast. This is the ride we did on our way back to Reno, NV. Starting near Pt. Reyes Station we rode 22 miles out to the Pt. Reyes Lighthouse and back. The ride was in near constant fog and drizzle but it didn't slow us down a bit. The roads were in terrific condition, there was virtually no traffic, and the Happy California Cows cheered us along. Or at least they mooed enthusiastically. This is a terrific ride that isn't too difficult with one small mountain to climb over and then a lot of short steep rollers. It's even better when you can see miles out into the ocean on either side of the peninsula, but even still the views were good enough, fog or not, to keep us happy.

As we climbed up the small mountain above the lighthouse we entered the fog barrier. My wife jumped when a herd of deer ran all around her in a bid to cross the road. She slowed down in a hurry but the deer only sped up. Quite a funny site. Thankfully they seemed more interested in leaving. I got a picture of my bike next to a blue whale skull. Was 40 foot long at one time. The lighthouse was unfortunately closed (just my luck we missed it by a day :(). But, I still got to listen to the fog horns and watch waves crash below. And then it was back through the mist which was getting ever heavier and quite colder. The ride was great but I was thrilled to get back to Pt. Reyes Station Cafe and a great Shepards Pie. (Sorry, no pics!)

nice.. I miss going back there. I guess next summer there's gonna be a trek out there.

I think it's a great place to go. Besides Highway 1 itself there are so many awesome side treks that can be done. It's fast becoming one of my favorite areas to explore.
