I loooooove the old styled horizontal top tubed road bikes. Unfortunately, science or manufacturing companies do not. HTT's seem to be stuck on the track, and single speed genre's from what I've seen, and have been researching. I think every single speed bike doesn't have a dérailleur tab, and the whole slight issue of horizontal dropouts. Fuji's Geometry on their Track (http://fujibikes.com/2008/bikes.asp?id=418) model looks beautiful, but needs those road-bike add-on spots.

Either I'm unsuccessful in my searching, or I have no clue what my 'dream frame/bike' is named, if it has a special name. Without naming classic bikes, what newer bikes/frames still run on this type of geometry style, but have the spots for brakes, dérailleur tabs & cable mounts?

You might consider the Surly Long Haul Trucker (http://www.surlybikes.com/longhaul.html).

Surly pacer.

Surly LHT.

Surly crosscheck.

Salsa Casarole.

Salsa's new steel cross bike

Pretty much anything rivendell makes.

Soma Speedster.

Kogswell P/R

Masi Speciale (or something like that)

Depending on how much you want to spend, there are more custom options than Could be easily named...

Or, just look on ebay- there are TONS of NOS or gently used bikes and frames that fit your descriptions being sold by folks who want newer lighter fancier...

Woah, yeah, I've checked out those surly's, and I don't know why they did not register in my head that they had fender tabs and the spots for the rear dérailleur... Beautiful. Now is there a standardized or rational name to call this style of frame when looking or talking to a LBS about?

It sounds sorta silly to be like: I want a road bike that looks like it came from the 1970's/80's!

Well, you already used the acronym HTT in your first post, so just say you're looking for a bike with a horizontal top tube. You can see from buck-50's post that these bikes have not gone away, so they're not called "classic, "retro" or any other faddish marketing term. BTW, add Waterford to buck's list.

FWIW, Quality Bicycle Products (QBP) is the parent company of Surly. Any bike shop with a QBP account can order a Surly frame for you, sometimes even at a price slightly below that of any Surly frame internet "deal."

Anything custom.

Also, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, Rivendell offers all those things.

Make sure the surly fits before you take the jump. The TT are horizontal but long for their size.

One other to consider- http://www.merciancycles.com/index.asp -

Even with the dollar in the toilet vs/ the pound, they're still a great bargain and absolutely beautiful. And, full custom.
