View Full Version : Cyclocross magazine
Albino 11-04-2007, 01:56 PM I picked up a FREE copy of a new cyclocross magazine today at the race. It's simply called Cyclocross.
Features articles on Jonathan Page,Katie Compton, Confessions of a sandbagger and a lot of cross stuff from interbike.
How cool, a magazine just for cross. This things going to come in handy around July and August when I'm needing some cross time.

morganfletcher 11-10-2007, 03:10 PM I'm subscribed, and I'm almost done reading the first issue. I'm happy there's another bike magazine, and this one is good and all cyclocross. Great job, Andrew & company!

I'll send you an email w/ feedback.
Are you in Portland? How did the TT go at SSCXWC? Dying to hear.
Yeah, Prunedale tomorrow, loves me some tacky sand. Doing two races again, probably do OK at one and pummeled at the other.
What is the story of Team Gobagger?
Looking forward to the muddy races,
Morgan
towerscum 11-10-2007, 04:25 PM I may be alone on this, but I think one of the cooler things about cross are the courses themselvs. The way the different sections(mud,pavement,run-ups etc) transition into each other are as important for personality as it is for flow. I mean, nothing is worse than a slow death on a boring course. Maybe a "course of the month" type thing would work for your mag. It could be fun seeing how designers deal with the terrain of their area and the ways venues differ across the country . Just a thought. Waiting for my first issue. Thanks!

I saw it today (I think) at Race Pace in MD. Wanted to pick up a copy but was still reeling from the race and forgot. I'm looking forward to grabbing a copy!
The Sundance Kid 11-11-2007, 07:29 PM magic,
I was there, where did you see the magazine? Did a friend have it or were they for sale somewhere at the race and I missed it? Anyone know where I could get my hands on one issue short of subscribing?

They were also in the registration building and were given away at the lasaguna dinner Saturday night, with free FAT TIRE!!!
By the way I'm a SSer and don't race my geared bike that often, but I liked the Campy/Shimano 8/9speed how to. I've been trying to find a way to put my previously SS cross check back together (I race a Kelly SS that I got from craigs list now)as a 9sp everything bike using shimano 105 deraler and 9sp cassettes, and going campy losing a little weight and not being much more expensive then bar cons might be the way.
elmar schrauth 11-12-2007, 05:11 AM how will i get it in germany
ttm166 11-12-2007, 05:34 AM very cool cover photo!!

I totally agree. I guess I see some courses that make me drool and other are just meh. I don't know, maybe it's flash backs of playing excitebike on nintendo as a kid and designing my own courses, but I'm also intrigued by this facet
eyebob 11-12-2007, 06:20 AM Good read. You'd do well to solicit advice on topics to cover from we racers. I liked the idea of the "course of the month"
Good luck with the venture.

haikalah 11-12-2007, 06:43 AM I'd bet folks down in Alabama would be interested. I am. Check out the website, www.bamacross.com Leave a note on the blog for the series director and I'd be they'd be willing to distribute copies at a race.
mondo 11-12-2007, 07:39 AM I just send money for the first 4 issues
Will i get the first issue?
or start with No2?
CycleLife 11-13-2007, 08:19 AM I also just ordered the mag yesterday and am pumped to get the first issue!
It would be cool if there were a ' How To' section in the mag.....
for example, one article could be about how to build you own barriers for training.
i'll bet you could look in this forum and find hundreds of How To ideas.
one of the confusing things for me when I first got into CX (a few months ago) was where I could go to train. everyone says, just go to a park and make your own course, but i didn't really know what that meant.
so....
- maybe an article talking about how to set up temporary courses in parks and how to clean them up afterwards so they don't cause problems with parks and recs departments.
green mt. boy 11-13-2007, 12:27 PM Same question as before - If I subscribe now will it start with #2? Will we get 4 issues over the year? I need a fix in Spring and Summer.
By the way, very nice job on the first issue - loved the Campy conversion article and the Compton interview. Keep up the good work
ZenNMotion 11-13-2007, 01:05 PM eCXellent read, thanks for the race freebie! I liked the piece on sandbagging, my pet peev of the season (since I bumped myself up and now getting consistently sandbagged). How-to follow-up piece on sizing dresses would be very useful as well, should I, you know, decide to go that way some day. The Mid-Atlantic scene being a little/lot more uptight than the Left Coast, it's hard to ask this kind of practical advice from the local Elites. I don't exactly want to try on dresses at the Goodwill store, at least without a posse of like-minded bro's, and sizing by eye is dicey- you want to be able to bend and breathe without an embarrassing hem-splitting mishap:blush2: , but at the same time too much loose fabric flapping about is just fashion tragedy, and it flies in the face of sensible aero design. So I'm 5'10" and wear a Medium skinsuit comfortably (but not to work). That translates to what in a dress size? I need help, and I'm sure there are others in a similar conundrum. Thanks in advance.
Lord Taipan 11-17-2007, 02:28 PM I got my first issue in the mail today!! Awesome guys!! Thanks for quoting me.
ZenNMotion 11-18-2007, 03:51 PM OK I'm in for color, can't wait for issue 2. Good luck guys!
towerscum 11-18-2007, 10:54 PM Got mine in the mail today. Love it. Now the long wait for issue #2. Katie is hot!
