Where you are in Florida, I am sure hand-ups are allowed since it is 90+ degrees. Up here in the north, they are usually allowed in the early races. But as of late, they have been telling us no hand-ups or feeding during our instructions. I prefer a helper with a bottle than carrying one, primarily because my skinsuits don't have pockets! But, It also gives you something to look forward to each lap.

How's the recovery been going?

We have no rules against any of it here. I prefer the hand-up method myself, one less thi9ng to carry with me through the barriers and the run-ups.

A small fuel flask (like a Gu flask, the kinds long distance runners use) in the pocket works for me on warm days. Holds about 4 oz or water which is enough to keep my throat from drying.

Water is nice during the race to wet your mouth and throat, and if it's hot to squirt on your head, but over the course of the race you will running a deficit, so get to the line hydrated. After your pre-race meal, which should be eaten more than 3 hours before the race, drink 10-12 oz water per hour up to a half hour before your race. The half hour gives you a chance to empty your bladder, then do a little top-off before your race.

The hip is much better now. Did a 3 hour offroad ride on the crossbike 2 weeks ago with no hip problems.

We can start the building of the frame now. I have an easy week on the bike, so i will get final numbers off the crossbike and roadbike.

First race is Saturday in Miami, should be a hot one!!

After my last race in SoCal with 85 degrees, 3% humidity and the 40 mph winds that drove all those fires we had, my tongue was so dry it stuck to the inside of my mouth in the first 10 minutes. Since the UCI officials were there, no hand-ups. After 30 minutes, I forgot about the dry mouth and just focused on my regular cross suffering. Made me realize that I really don't need water in CX, ever. Hand-ups from my wife are great, when allowed, but I'll never carry a bottle.

Oh, I thought this thread was about deciding between the Pilsners and IPA at the beer tent during the race.I have found a nice Hefe stays down better than a Porter or IPA while doing a few hot laps. Maybe that is why those Belgium Beers are so fruity flavored. Man I am so on the rivet during cross races I am not sure i could get the water down the right hole, and if it did if it would stay down there..

Borrowed from Crankles (http://have-a-snack.blogspot.com/).

This picture sums it up.

Hawss, It works much better in a cup or glass. Too many bubbles in the bottle. Or so I have been told. It least it looks like good beer. My kind of guys.
