Well, I'm off work in a few minutes and the sun's nearly down. I guess it'll be dark commuting home for the next few months. I'll only get worse until mid-December. Time to test my mettle.

Welcome Pablo. I've been commuting for 10-1/2 years, leaving at 4:45 - 5:00 AM - dark year round. Now it's dark for half of my commutes home (I leave earlier 2 days a week). I think if I did the math I probably ride 25-35% of my miles in the dark. It ain't so bad, once you get used to it.

I'm looking outside and the sun has long since gone down and there is only the last remnants of light. By the time I get my gear on it'll be dark and time to test my new light. Hope it's bright enough...

Have a safe ride home m8

Yup...be safe...drivers aren't used to the dark commute yet.

I used to hate runners without lights worse than cyclists--they'd always wear black and appear on the MUT out of nowhere. Once I got a more powerful light it was better, but they could still surprise you at times.

ugh... I have to admit I was one of them without lights... yikes. My first words to my wife were... "now THAT was trippy... " Geez it got dark FAST. I was late to a meeting this AM and commuted the 20 miles with a brisk tailwind and got there lickety split 20.3 avg with backpack and stoplights... thank you...with a minute to spare... so yes... I showed up in my meeting in full team kit, arm warmers, leg warmers... etc.

It was 4:36 when I looked outside, and said to myself... holy crap... and I did... and it must not have been to myself because the cube dude over the wall asked What. So, shut off computer, run to the bathroom, change ... etc cuz I COMPLETELY forgot about Daylight savings time, so ... ah hem... the first 10 miles were blazing fast despite the headwind... the next 5 miles were... filled with nervous anticipation... and the last five were... downright idiotic. People were giving me friendly advice to get a light... yeah, thanks.

I felt this pressure in my head, and I knew, just knew it was MB1.... trying to put the kabash on my idiotness... so..... it was nerve racking... and really a trippy nightmare... but alas I rolled in. But... I hate daylight savings time in the fall. You set your clock... but everything else is right on the same schedule... sun... moon... children... I hate fall fallback...

That's leaving early!

It's still the best way to bookend my day. I'm looking forward to maintaining fitness throughout the winter sans trainer. I need to pickup some batteries, however . . .

I have built-in lights on my bike, powered (OK, just the front for now) off a generator hub. I never have to worry about how dark it gets, because I can always just throw a switch and I'm lit up. You have no idea how nice it is not to have to think about batteries...

Yesterday it was bright outside when I left for work at 6:30 am for the first time since back in August. I kind of missed the dark. I enjoy the morning ride because there isn't much traffic, and my lights make it easy to see and be seen. I was concerned about the afternoon ride because traffic is much heavier, but the fading light made me more visible, I think. I ran my head and tail lights on the way home, and fortunately the sun had sunk far enough that it wasn't creating blind spots for drivers. I noticed over the weekend driving around in my truck how blinding the sun can be late in the afternoon as it nears the horizon. That made me think twice about my visibility in the afternoons, but I think the end of daylight savings actually helps me in that regard.

Last night was my first ride home in the dark and my first time using my Light & Motion Stella. Pretty cool little light, got me home just fine.

I like the change. It means that I don't have to ride in the dark in the morning like I have been doing for a month or so.
