Last year I decided to make the big move and move out of the city. I am only about 20 miles out but this is the burbs for me. Anyways for the past year i have been taking the train from my town into work. It is only 1.5 miles each way to my train and it costs 2 bucks to park each day. I said this is crazy. So I bought a used bike as my commuter. My ride to the train is basically one long rolling hill. I just bought and installed a computer for my bike and I clocked 30 mph on the way down. Because of traffic, I pass most cars in the morning and save myself 2 bucks each day. When I pull up to secure my bike I get the feeling like people are thinking, great idea.

I just wish my commute was a little longer so i could enjoy the ride a little longer. But with the cold here in the NE I think I am better off. One thing I will refuse to do is ride in the rain or snow. I hate being wet for work...

Rain and snow are easy to walk in. Different shoes, overpants, and a shell. Totally dry inside.

I commute 2.5 miles. Oddly enough, I really need a different bike than my road bike. My road bike doesn't like me to wear a messenger bag! I'd like a touring bike anyway. A cheapie would do except for the 25% stretch I have to do. At least it's short!

Hey, even a few miles a day is better than using that up in fuel and traffic annoyance. That's a short walk also if you have a safe path to follow (i.e. sidewalks or something). Good for you.
