I have and love true vintage machines, but I also love seeing those old school frames with new components. This topic has come up many times before, but I need to see some new creations for inspiration.

A while back somebody showed their purple and black Colnago Master Olympic with new DA10 and it looked fabulous. And in the dream bike thread, Len showed his Sachs/Record 10 ride. I was drooling. Then, the Nago/SRAM Rival one recently posted is a great looking twist.

I recently bid with unbridled emotion and reckless abandon and won a NOS 1990 Rossin Prestige on the bay. I always wanted one BITD. I've decided this one is going to be a RetroModern build.

I dont't know if it this gives you any inspiration, but it's an old school steel frame, '94, bought this year nos, with 2007 campy centaur group, 2005 record chainset. Rides like a charm. Good luck with your build. Post some pics!

Tubing is Columbus SLX (frame made around 199??) and the group is 2003 Chorus 10 sp, except for the BB and headset which are Record and came w/ the frame.

What kind of bike is that in the third pic (vetta)? Awesome looking machine. Is there a website with more info on the brand. I know I seem ignorant but haven't heard of it and like the look.

Cheers

It's a 1986 Vetta. Made with Columbus SL Gilco-like shaped tubes. Wonderful ride and quite a looker. Thanks for asking.

I guess all of my bikes are post-modern because they don't got no carbon. Here are a couple -- my De Bernardi and Merckx Corsa 01. Both have a mix of Ultegra and DA parts.

I sent her back to Tommasini to get re-sprayed 2 1/2 years ago. Not sure of the actual build year, but it's 2003 Chorus with Chorus on Open Pro wheels.

I love her.

Picture does not quite have the color correct...it is 60's Bianchi Celeste.

I guess I should show my own, since you all have posted up your beauties.
This is a 1991 Tommasini Diamante with Columbus MS tubing and Campy Chorus 10 group, Mavic Cosmic Equipe wheels, GP4000 tires, Selle Italia Novus saddle and a 3T 4GXL bar and stem with quill to threadless adapter. I am the original owner of this frame and bought it from Colorado Cyclist when I was 18 and had just graduated high school. Thanks to all for sharing!

You Tommasini owners have me all worked up....now I have to go finish mine - a '88 Super Prestige like Unicas above - just not nearly as nice. Maybe after the repaint. And Brewsters Diamante - sweet!

The only thing modern are the DA clipless pedals.

First, the Ciocc Microf C.40 SLX with 2001 Chorus:

My current race bike isn't a vintage frame as I took delivery in June 2006, but I think it fits the theme. Please forgive the horrid bars. They were only on there for about four days as that's what I had on hand at the time:

Do track bikes count? Also not vintage being new in February 2007. It is lugged steel (Columbus Life) with new parts though. I particularly love the Nitto bits - steel bars and stem and a beautiful two-bolt seatpost. The wheels are Dura Ace high flange track hubs built up with mid 80's vintage NOS Araya ADX-1 rims and Alpina spokes from the same era, 28 hole 3x.

Just saw the thread. Here's mine, a '92 Battaglin built from Columbus MAX tubing. I had it stripped and repainted, and built it up with Chorus kit, except for the RD and seatpost - those are Centaur, because they're alloy, not Carbon:

It's not light, but the weight seems to disappear even on climbs. And descents? It's like it's on rails.

here's a blurry camera phone pic of my wife's Waterford RS-11. i just built it up last night and test rode it to work today :p fortunately we ride about the same size of bike. :D

nicely lugged, 531 tubing frame and fork with shimano 105/ultegra/DA bits, soma fab bars, stem and post, cane creek compact levers and headset and ritchey crankset. the seat needs replacing after one of the dogs chewed the tip.

Be thankful you weren't sitting on it at the time.

I've posted this before, but here is my 87 Rossin that I had repainted last spring. I have been running it fixed for the last year or so.

Mine is (I believe) an 88. DA except new sram cassette and chain, and 105 wheels. Just put the seat on a couple weeks ago.

Fastest on the westside.

Not the best pic of my '91 Masi Gran Corsa. Campy Veloce except Record BB and Chorus crankset. Yellow cables and bar tape await. About 22lbs.
