Anyone have any experience with one of these? I have the opportunity to buy it for about $100. Note it is not the actual bike in the picture, but it is the same vintage/color. Any idea what year it is? Is it made of gas pipe or something decent? If I acquire, I will either make it a single speed (or fixed) or turn throw some more modern parts on it that I have laying around.

Miyatas are great bikes. If it's a 710, it's definitely a bike worth owning and made of double-butted steel, I think. It's probably equipped with a mid-level Shimano or Suntour group – and if it's all in good shape, it might just be worth keeping geared, to use as a foul-weather trainer.

$100 is a good price. The 710 is not gas pipe. I had a 912 once that I sold only because it was a tad too big. It was a great riding bike.

it looks like it is in ok shape. It has a little surface rust so I may have to sand it down in spots. I also found out that the $100 price doesn't include wheels and some components. Not as good a deal as I thought. I may pick it up anyway as I have parts laying around. Thanks for the feedback!

My brother hadd the same vintage 710. Tange Champion #2 tubing (same gauge as Columbus SL) and Suntour components. I had a 912 from the next year and can confirm the excellent riding charachteristics of the bikes.
