went out with Estelle, Andrew and HH for a bright, cold, Sunday ride - it was Estelle's first ride on her new custom built Ti Merlin - jealous much? - we ended up doing about 100k on quiet country roads east of Stevenage and up to the Cambridgeshire border - Andrew is a strong rider and was always out front but none of us felt particularly fit - we agreed it was due to the time of year and that we were just lucky to be out in good weather - it was in the low mid 40's but felt much colder after 4 hours of being out - the ride was perfect save for a very fast small dog almost causing some damage to Estelle - we trained up from Finsbury Park and left Stevenage via the extensive cycling network
it's nice riding in a bigger group - I found myelf following quite a bit
we are all London commuters - the fall colours, quiet roads, thatched roofs and old churches were great to see
I felt like we'd been out longer than we had and expected more distance for the time incurred but it was a leisurely pace and I think the cold demanded more effort - HH soon left us and rode back to his home in Bedfordshire while we headed back to the train which pulled in 5 minutes after we got to the platform - a great day out

Not a chance.
Well, maybe just a little.
O.K., O.K. of course I am.
BTW it sure is nice to see a bunch of people riding sans helmet.
it's a beauty of a bike - the picture doesn't do it justice
my wife is a speech and language therapist - she went out with some work colleagues recently who were all horrified about my sans helmet stylings - they had all the stories to go with it too - after that she asked me to wear a helmet - so after two years of commuting sans helmet in heavy urban traffic - I agreed to wear a helmet when I commute for her peace of mind - but I will not wear a helmet when out for non-commuting rides

That's very in-vogue this year.

I just don't understand how a thatched roof doesn't leak. Pretty, though.

Ummmmm...yes. :cryin:
Lovely ride. No helmet is bad enough, but what's with your friend wearing shorts in the low 40s...brrrrrrrr.
he's tough - from Northern Ireland....

That reminded me of the cycling paths I saw in Cambrideg a few weeks ago. Nice countryside. We took the train everyday to Royston. Mostly commuters bringing their bikes on the train. It did make me jealous. My new goal is to never travel for work again.
well spotted - the last picture in the thread is 3 miles from Royston - we were on the ridge to the south which may have been visible
