I've been reading a lot about bike shoes, and think that the Sidi Dominators would be a great shoe for me. I tried them on at a LBS, since I had seen new 44s advertised for $110 shipped here on roadbikeforum. Unfortunately, two things happened when I tried them on:

1) the 44s were tight (they actually didn't have a pair of Dominators in 44, so I tried on other Sidi MTB shoes in a 44), but the Dominators in a 44.5 felt GREAT. So I couldn't buy the $110 44s, because the size wasn't quite right.

2) I fell in love with the Dominators

So now I really want a pair (I definitely need MTB shoes, and would really like Sidis), and I can't really find any decent deals on them. I've read about all these folks who have bought them for half price, blah, blah blah, but after googling all over the place and checking out CL and eBay, I'm coming up short. Any ideas how to get a popular size like the 44.5s at a great price? I certainly would love to find an old model, but when I see low priced closeouts of old Sidi stock, it always seems to be road shoes and/or really small or really large sizes.

Thanks for any ideas.

Go to your LBS and pay the $229, they are worth the money! If you are near Delaware, get them there no tax. And definetly try them on before you buy. SIDI sizes run a little big. I normally were a 45, but the 44.5 fit perfect. So definelty try a couple different sizes.

Performance were recently offering the Sidis for $200. With a 10% off coupon and the extra 10% from being a perfromance member thats' about $160. Wait for a 15% or 20% coupon or one of the double points weekends and you can bring that down to the equivalent of $140 + tax. You won't get a better deal than that.

Don't buy a pair without trying them on. Shoe sizing and fit varies enormously between manufacturers, models and years. Direct from a store is always best.

Sidi's are going to stretch, so I would get them a 1/2 size too small anyways

unless you already new this...
