My first one. Sorry about the quantity and quality of the pics. I was just using my cell phone.
It was cold when I started (28 degrees), so I decided to cut this ride a bit short. I usually do a 60 mile loop on Sunday. As it was, my gonads were pretty frosty. But, that helped me think and contemplate w/ my big head vs. my small one. :)
I can vary this loop by taking different cutoffs, and adding sections to between 25 and 75 miles. It works out pretty well, with small general stores intersperced at regular intervals to replenish water, food, etc. I've been working on separating my hydration, electrolytes, and nutrition (salt pills, glucose, and h20), so these stores come in handy.
Small, winding country roads w/ no shoulder. The traffic is usually OK, but these folks have zero tolerance for a sinner like me if they're late for church. You have to be on full alert when anywhere near a church, but other than that, it's a beautiful ride through a bunch of farms and quarter-horse boarding ranches. There are a lot of nice elevation changes in the ride. The section of woodpecker road (see below) is a nice set of climing rollers when taken to the NW.
My first split was very slow (couldn't get my legs warmed up), but I clicked off the last 30 miles at a 18.2 avg. I've been doing a lot of power intervals on my trainer and on my short weekday rides and it starting to pay some dividends. My splits through here were around 16.4 back in Sept. The best thing I've done for my speed was dump my cadence monitor and focus on my HRM.
here's a google link to the route. and a few pics.
