Went out for weekend ride about 2 and a half weeks ago, and felt a bit of pain in my left gluteus muscle after a few k's...the area behind the hip...that main muscle basically.
Just assumed it was nothing and rode for the rest of the ride (another two hours) with some minor pain but nothing that seemed major...thought it was just a niggle or cramp??, shifting position in the saddle seemed to make it go away.
Woke up next morning with general soreness in both 'gluts'...as would be expected if doing weights or something, except the left was worse and it made normal walking painful so I had to limp a bit. Note it was not terrible but also generally 'ached'.
This ache seemed to go down to my knee and foot? also, like a 'refered pain' or something.
So I had two weeks off totally. I had a big increase in millage maybe that was a cause?
Pain had more or less cleared up, it does not feel like normal 'strained muscle' like you get if you do say too bigger weights at the gym...gets tender then heals after 4 or 5 days that sort of thing. Instead a dull pain remained after any tenderness had gone.
I rode a 1 hour spin on Sunday and then had Monday off and commuted Tuesday for ~1.5 hours easy pace. Had today off, can still feel a kind of non-local dull ache below the gluteus/top of hamstring which feels all wrong. I know if I cycle tomorrow it will not be good for me.
I cannot pin down which muscle I have pulled. If I stretch my left glut it feels a 'little tight', if I stretch my left hamstring it feels a 'little tight' at the top, but then I was limping around for a few days last week. The 'tightness' does not seem to be related to the 'dull ache'. There is no swelling as far as I can tell by exploring around the musculature with my hand.
Wondering if I have done anything to some of the supporting muscle/fibres around the main glutens muscle? Hope it is not tendons, did my right shoulder years ago and that was about 1 year before even being 90% ok. Oh and chronic inflammation of muscle in my right groin from soccer, that was caused by playing injured, that went from a hell fire swelling to a dull ache which refused to go away and took about 2 years of rehabilitation.
I want to ride and am getting pi$$ed off, I am supposed to be building base.
