It seems like OLN has decided to show only a single one hour recap of the Vuelta...No live coverage, no daily coverage, no nothing.

Probably because all the complaining and hand wringing that occurred during the TdF around here.

OLN had their highest ratings BY FAR EVER for this year's TdF. While certainly the Vuelta would achieve nowhere near those numbers of viewers, it would attract a great many hardcore cyclists and fans of cycling many of whom added OLN to their menu of cable options specifically to watch cycling and who tuned in with fervor for three weeks in July. Send OLN your feedback because that's the only way they'll know that people want to see the Vuelta on OLN. The past couple of years the Vuelta has been incredibly dramatic and suspenseful -- arguably more so than the TdF!

So no one should have an opinion about the coverage or the incessant commercials? We should all indiscrimantly worship at the altar of the Tour de Lance? I guess anyone who wishes OLN was a little less Lance-o-centric should move to Europe and watch Eurosport (or listen to Eurosport's live audio feed)?!? It seems that if Lance isn't racing, unlike in past years, OLN will only show air a highlight show.

Which is still far better than the coverage anyone has ever received in year's past. Think back to John Tesh and 30 minutes of coverage for the entire Tour de France, and you'll get the point. They probably looked at their Vuelta ratings from last year, saw that basically nobody cared, and probably put bull riding in there or something like that. Remember, just because we like to watch cycling, doesn't mean everyone else does. We seem to forget that sometimes. But write some letters, it will probably get you nowhere, but you can try at least, or better yet, just go out and ride your bike instead.

Damn shame the DVR with the OLN covergae was awsome fast forward through all the commercials. What sites may be covering through the web??? Any with streamed audio and video?

Thanks

I was watching ESPN last week and they did an interview about the Tour with some guy that lasted about 20 minutes. One of the things they talked about was the TV coverage and the fact that Discovery was now on board and they might figure into the coverage. From the way he put it, OLN only has broadcast rights to the Tour, not the Vuelta or Giro. Thier is speculation that Discovery might cover next years Giro and Vuelta in some fashion because its their own team in the race. In the long run we may get more coverage instead of less. One thing to keep in mind is that OLN is not available in every market; Discovery is probably close to 100% as far as cable system go so its a bigger reach. Discovery and all thier stations have the potential to market races 10 times better than OLN. Its going to be interesting, lets hope it works out we get more rather than less.

I posted this in the general forum as well, but I figured just to hedge my bets I'd put it here as well. Sign the petition to be sent to OLN to provide coverage of the Vuelta. It can't hurt to show them the size of the audience that they're loosing. As for me I'll be listening on eurosport.com again (great place to listen to the grand tours at work) during the day.

Perhaps only partially true since OLN is currently a sponsor of US Postal with their logo on the team jersey. However, they're obviously not the primary sponsor like Berry Floor and USPS. You also see AMD, Subaru and other on the jersey currently.

There are only so many Monster Truck/WWE/What a Man, I killed a BIRD with a SHOTGUN kind of people who will watch a bike race. And guess what, they are where the money is. Many off them say stupid $%& like "Rip their balls off, Lance" and probably thought most of the Superbowl commercial where funny. I look for the day when I can get an internet feed of English racing coverage. OLN sucks slightly less than NBC/CBS/ABC when they cover the TdF (oh wait, they didn't cover the Tour, they covered Lance's part of it), and much more the rest of the time.

Grump mode off ;)
